LONDON (Reuters) - A former journalist who told the New York Times that phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch's now defunct News of the World was more extensive than the paper had acknowledged at the time, has been found dead, media reported on Monday.

..... and before it's over we should see Murdoch/NewsCorps' connections to the British government, the House of Saud, Big Oil, our own State Department, and Erik Prince's Xe Services (formerly known as Blackwater USA).

One of the radio "hosts" who makes fun of the teleprompter daily said that Palin's notes on her hand were "endearing." The "host" also blamed Obama for televising his day with the Republican leadership, saying that if he was serious, he would have done it in private. This was after a solid month of daily beatings for not making the health care negotiations public......"

I'm glad to see that someone else has finally noticed this.

It seems that the modus operandi of FOX news and the GOP is to accuse the Obama administration of doing the very things of which they themselves are most guilty.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a nephew of the Saudi king who was listed last year by Forbes as the world's 22nd richest person, met with News Corp.'s chief executive Rupert Murdoch on Jan. 14 in a meeting that "touched upon future potential alliances with News Corp.," according to a statement released by his Kingdom Holding Co. late Saturday.

And, it appears that Alwaleed is already making his presence felt at News Corp -- the Saudi prince has chosen the man who will be Rupert Murdoch's successor, should Murdoch die or choose to retire.
The Saudi prince has announced that he he has decided that James Murdoch shall be Rupert Murdoch's successor at News Corp when the elder Murdoch is ready to retire, and, Alwaleed says that he will back his protege to succeed Rupert Murdoch regardless of the elder Murdoch's wishes in the matter.
On the Charlie Rose show this week, Alwaleed announced,
"If he (Rupert Murdoch) doesn't appoint him, I'll be the first one to nominate him to be the successor of Mr Rupert Murdoch, God forbid if something happens to him. "

Let me say it again -- the Saudi King's nephew PUBLICLY ADMITTED, five years ago, that he told FOX News what news to report.
Since then, he has been buying up News Corp stocks and insinuating himself into the inner operations of News Corp, to the point where he is now telling Rupert Murdoch who his successor should be, whether Rupert likes it or not!

Whites Forward

If we're going to actually build a real independent pro-White political party, we need to build a transitional grassroots White mass movement first...such as TPAC. We must effective create the mass demand for a pro-White political alternative and we must gather the forces from which a pro-White party can organically emerge. TPAC can be the genesis of our new White mass movement and the fertile womb for our pro-White political party.

TPAC can be hugely successful with the upcoming July 4th Tea Party events. Let's reach these folks with the TPAC six point agenda, organize the hell out of the Tea Party crowd, and hold regular grassroots TPAC meetings and events thereafter. You know that if we don't take this seriously and bust our build and spread TPAC, these Tea Party event organizers will drop the ball on the momentum, or they will mislead it. Let's seize the reins, develop the mass agenda, and organize thousands of White Americans into local TPAC groups, and unleash the grassroots power and creativity of these TPAC groups to make an effective fightback.

Anyone at these Tea Parties who agrees with us on all of the TPAC six point agenda should be permitted to join, and we should build close relations with those who agree with significant parts of the TPAC agenda. This is not a 'front group', or a typical 'movement' group. Tea Party attendees don't have to agree with the full message of WN to join or work alongside TPAC, and we shouldn't lead them to think otherwise.

We serious racialists will initiate TPAC in the real-world, and we will lead it. We have to prepare this, get other serious racialists involved, make this coordinated intervention work on July 4th, and build a real independent grassroots White mass movement from this July 4th intervention onward.

Some of you are members of racialist organizations and/or have your own pro-White media outlets. They have a place within TPAC, amongst the more receptive minority in TPAC. What this means is that White racialist groups like EAU, CofCC, NCoal, EURO, Patriots Alliance, ANP and so on should work inside TPAC or alongside TPAC, while maintaining their own independent existence, holding their own local meetings and activities that include the more perceptive TPAC minority, and distribute more advanced racialist materials amongst the more perceptive TPAC minority.
But, if you and your group don't get involved with TPAC, don't bring us tears because you remain stagnant and irrelevent while other racialists that got on the ball with TPAC are growing in mass influence and experiencing significant recruitment growth.

There will be no public sectarian in-fighting between racialists within TPAC. Play nice or TPAC will give the offending parties the boot. Keep racialist group rivalries and 'movement' gossip about outside of TPAC.
Zero tolerance for counterproductive BS from racialists within TPAC...we'll have enough anti-White opponents as it is, so we don't need false friends that undercut us. Any racialists who act in a counterproductive unbecoming manner will be expelled from TPAC and I highly recommend that all racialist groups break relations with the offending parties, before they screw you over too.

The current imagery ban policy on Stormfront should be made official policy for all TPAC meetings, events and activities. Save all that banned imagery--- which you can't display on SF--- for your own racialist meetings and events, if you so choose. I'm NS, but you will not see me appearing anything like a typical Hollywood stereotype inside TPAC.

People have been saying they want a real relevant pro-White mass movement for a long time. Well, the opportunity to begin is coming on July 4th and it's practically begging us to seize it.
Let's see who really wants a White mass movement, and who's willing to put in the effort necessary to really make it happen. Let's separate the serious wheat from the unserious, lazy chaff. Let's prepare to seize the day on July 4th and begin to build the new White American racial mass alternative. Join Tea Party Americans Coalition, and let's get busy.

Google Tea Parties, as many towns with about 20,000 people had small rallies, and not all of these were announced very far away from where they occurred. But the group is also about Starting Tea Parties. Call, rent, speak for a room at the local community center, or a meeting room that can be rented at the local restaurant/lounge or motel/hotel. A meeting room at a good restaurant can be attractive to some groups as it could provide food and fellowship and help break the ice.

Flyers announcing the event can be casually distributed around town. The very fact that these events are not in every town leaves an immense opportunity for us to provide them.

Enlisting the aide of conservative people in the area, basically any non-liberal who owns property and is willing to help, can aide you the individual if this seems too big a project all by your lonesomes. Hey, many of us are new to this and we will make mistakes, so no one think they have to be perfect in this. Remember, as I often post, 85% of anything is just showing up every day. If we have the willing spirit and are willing to get out in the community and talk to people, we will individually be able to 'pull this off'. The project will have it's own momentum, trust me. It's time is here.

(As a side note: the reason I say try and attract Conservative property owners and not liberals is that Libs seem to be staying with their party's lines and opposing the Tea Parties. Plus, some libs, if brought in, could try and seize leadership of your unit for their own agendas. Liberals are not useful idiots and are only going to oppose our agenda further on down the road. Better to not 'ferment the loaf').

Property/home owners are the main victims of the tax increase but it is also increases in other areas of our lives as well. Definitely enlist help and rope, collar, enlist as many people as you can.

Even if you lose control of the leadership of the group, (and I think at some point here eventually we need to discuss how to retain leadership or at least 'voice' in the local tea party groups) the very fact that a tea party group is in your local area subverts the plans of the Marxists, establishes a 'beach head' for us in an area and spreads a bona fide causa bella for popular discontent.

We effectively fan fulmination and discontent against the plans of the Marxists. This discontent will, later, spread from taxes to other things Marxist, as the masses/sheeple actually learn to take those Baby Steps that Whites Forward eloquently mentioned. We have to actually help them to see that 'getting mad' is okay. They are mad and angry now, but it is a fragile anger, a fire able to be snuffed out easily by outsiders.

Basically we were taught self sufficiency on every level-even the girls learned how to hunt, shoot and clean guns. The girls were taught how to be a woman, wife, mother and proud of herself. The boys were taught how to be a man and care for the family. We were all taught respect for our elders and ourselves. To not be pushed around. How and when to stand firm and that sometimes you had to take a stand. I think we were taught how to be good people, with high moral standards and to stand up for what is right. From little tots to grandparents, we looked out for each other. We prayed together, ate together and worked the farm together, all of us doing what we could. Have you ever seen a group of Italian men having a "discussion"? The kind of "discussion" I am talking about is no longer "politically correct" or allowed in our police society. A society where having and speaking about an opinion is frowned upon. Someone nowadays witnessing one of those "discussions" would undoubtedly call the police and cower in the corner! My Uncles and Father and Grandfather, being very strong Italian men, would sit around the kitchen table and PASSIONATELY and LOUDLY discuss everything. Politics and religion and history would usually result in loud, passionate, opinionated, hours long "discussions". How I miss them!! Our family had its problems and issues like every family does but when I look past the bumpy parts of my family I remember the gems I learned from "mia famiglia", my family. I lean on these teaching and hope I can pass the truth of them on to my children.
When I hear women say "I am just a stay at home mom" I feel sad for them. It belittles the importance of the job. It belittles them as a person. How did our society allow parenting to become such a worthless thing? How did our society allow the most important occupation to become something so hated, defamed, mocked, ridiculed and dishonored? Now raising our children with morals and character as we see fit, has become illegal. We are terrorists if we try to instill these good qualities in them. Now if we share our religion, our ethics, our opinions, or our beliefs, there is something wrong with us. The government, via the school system, now teaches our children are all INSANE! "The Three Greatest Issues Facing the Men of New Zealand"

The theonomists are in loooooooove with New Zealand, and that's no big surprise.

New Zealand is a desirable country, from a dominionist-cultist point of view -- undeveloped, fertile, Eurocentric, and underpopulated -- in fact, the only problem with New Zealand, to borrow a phrase from Braveheart, is that it is full of New Zealanders.

But, Botkins & Co are quite literally banking on the fact that some influential Kiwis can be turned towards their theological/sociological point of view, and that other NZealanders will see the fiscal advantage of working with filthy rich Yank "enterpreneurs" despite their strange religious beliefs, and will put up with a certain amount of goofiness for the sake of gain, at least for a little while.... which is all the time the Botkins group needs to gain a toehold in the country, entrench themselves in the financial and political system there, and start outbreeding the locals.

It's the same old dominionist game plan, and the same old dominionist goal, but in the microcosm of New Zealand, given the Botkins' connections and their apparently limitless access to financial resources, it is a goal which would take several hundred years to accomplish anywhere else in the world, but which could be brought to fruition in New Zealand in less than 50 years.

Shout-Out to Fort Huachuca

I checked my sitemeter this morning and it appears that I've had quite a number of visits from the folks at "army.mil" -- that's the Army's ISP, "143.81.248.# (Headquarters, USAAISC)" located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

Fort Huachuca is the home of the 111th Military Intelligence Brigade, which conducts training in training in human intelligence (e.g. interrogation, counter-intelligence), imagery intelligence, and electronic intelligence and analysis, etc.

A little over one year ago, it was reported that Blackwater was one of five companies in line for portions of a $15 billion Pentagon contract to counter "narco-terrorism"; four of the five already had operations in Arizona, while Blackwater did not.

Also, since 2004, there have also been allegations that Fort Huachuca has been linked to the teaching of abuse or torture techniques that were used in Abu Ghirab and elsewhere. In October 2007, two Roman Catholic priests, Louie Vitale and Steve Kelly, were sentenced to 5 months imprisonment for trespassing after refusing to depart the installation when authorities refused to accept a letter that would have formally acknowledged a link between Fort Huachuca and training in torture methods.

Blackwater: Guns for Hire or Trojan Horsemen?

A couple of years ago, a fellow blogger wrote to me,

"Speaking of Gary North, I just finished reading a book called “Blackwater”. BW is a private security company here in US that receives gov’t contracts to provide protection in war torn areas -essentially they are mercenaries.
Anyway Gary North’s name is spoken of there in many places along with other key players that are known in republican conservative christian circles. Scary stuff ethically . .. as it seems to be getting their ( BW ) stamp of approval.
You have to read the book to get what I’m talking about.
I mention it because it helps give you a profile of the man and others like him."

Sure does.... Blackwater, Inc (the company, not the book), is one group that bears watching, and our government knows it. The question is, who’s watching whom…

The group’s founder, Erik Prince, also is on the board of Christian Freedom International, “a nonprofit group with a mission of helping Christians who are persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ.”

According to Wikipedia, the organization’s board members include a wide cross section of conservative notables, from Michael P. Farris, former President of the Home School Legal Defense Association and founder of Patrick Henry College in Virginia, to former Swiss Ambassador Faith Whittlesey.

But to understand more about Blackwater and the climate in which it was created, one needs to also understand the family of its founder. Eric Prince is the brother in-law to Dick DeVos Jr, heir to the Amway fortune.

In 1975 the elder Richard DeVos (then president of Amway Corporation), together with a group of conservative businessmen (including John Talcott of Ocean Spray Cranberries and Art De Moss, board chairman of the National Liberty Insurance Corporation), took control of the tax-exempt Christian Freedom Foundation. Their purpose, apparently, was to use the foundation's tax-exempt status to further religious right organizing efforts and to channel funds into Third Century Publishers, who produced "One Nation Under God", which provides a political rationale for the religious right. According to journalist Russ Bellant, DeVos and friends funded the publication not to merely increase church attendance, but to create a movement whereby authoritarian church structures would come to govern the United States, as do the mullahs in the Islamic states in other regions of the world.
Richard Sr. and Jr. have been the most generous benefactors of this movement, along with Dick Jr.’s late father-in-law; in 1976, Art De Moss admitted publicly that the purpose of CFF was to elect Christian conservatives to Congress :"The vision is to rebuild the foundations of the Republic as it was when first founded--a 'Christian Republic.' We must return to the faith of our fathers."

DeVos is also a member of the Council for National Policy ( CNP ). The Council was created in 1981 by leaders of the extremist John Birch Society to move the United States in a very rightward direction. The Birchers explicitly reject democracy, as do many of the allies they recruited for the CNP. For years they organized White Citizens Council to fight the civil rights movement and later melded into the militia movement.

The CNP has included such notables as the late Dr. Jerry Falwell, the Reverends Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and D. James Kennedy; Richard Shoff (a former leader of the Indiana Ku Klux Klan); members of the Coors brewery family, and Texas oilman Nelson Bunker Hunt. Ex-lobbyist and confessed felon Jack Abramoff lobbied on behalf of Blackwater; he and his cohort in crime, former Amway distributor Tom Delay, are also in the CNP.

Another group supported by the DeVos family is the Foundation for Traditional Values, affiliated with D. James Kennedy’s Coral Ridge Ministry, who assert that the United States was created as a “Christian Nation” that was subsequently subverted. They claim that the subversion of Christianity began with the constitutional amendment to abolish slavery in the 1860’s.

SOUND FAMILIAR???

Russ Bellant, in his article, "Profile of a Christian Right Candidate: Dick DeVos", writes that "... the FTV teaches that citizens must create a “Christian Republic” and thereby purge secularism from America." Bellant writes that they conduct annual political action youth training programs on government property - in some cases, using the very state capitol buildings themselves! -- and hold large fundraising events where the DeVoses are prominent sponsors.

I could go on…. but isn’t it CHARMING, that these seditious, anti-American billlionaire whackos have their own private army – Blackwater Inc. — an army which has received the approbation of our government in the form of our tax dollars — the Bush administration hired Blackwater to “help us out” both in New Orleans, after Katrina, and in the war in Iraq, in the latter case by flying prisoners to various international locations to be "interrogated" !

This is has a huge potential to bite us in the butt, make no mistake. Private armies with private agendas are never trustworthy. Rome fell, in part, due to her dependence upon foreign mercenaries, but in this case, the rot is housed and funded from within our very own borders.

United "Liberty"??? (well, one out of two ain't bad....)

Over on "United Liberty" blog, contributor Matt Chancey observes,
"Increasingly, these young people are voting more and more Democratic. Of course, liberal Democrats have always enjoyed the majority of the youth vote - what little there was. But today’s socially conscious youth are making up an increasing percentage of the electorate and are going to play a larger role in certain elections.
Conservatives don’t do well with young people because they are seen as part of the older generation and not tuned into the needs of others. Conservatives are seen as misers who only care about their own affairs, their own businesses, their own retirement funds, etc....."

...to which I posted a rather lengthy comment, included below. However, upon revisiting United Liberty this evening I found that my comment has been deleted. So, I reposted it just now, prefaced by the following statement:

"This morning I posted the following comment (below) to this blog. This evening I found that it has been deleted.
To the best of my knowledge, I have documented the claims that I have made pertaining to Matt Chancey, Doug Phillips, et al; if anything that I have said is false, I invite you refute it.
But if what I have stated is true, why delete it?"

This morning, I wrote,

Maybe the young folks are getting turned off of conservatism because they're tired of getting hoodwinked by people who pose as conservatives and loyal Americans but who upon closer inspection turn out to be something else entirely.

To begin with, during Matt Chancey's recent run for office in Alabama, it was revealed that Matt Chancey opposes women’s suffrage on religious grounds:

Matt Chancey and his wife Jennie believe that it is a sin (or at the very least, is highly inadvisable) for women to vote, hold political office, attend college, or work outside the home. These views are expounded upon at great length on Jennie Chancey’s website,Ladies Against Feminism.

Apparently, in the Chancey household’s ideal world, fathers would vote for the household, and all daughters would live at home “serving their fathers“ until the time of their arranged courtship and marriage, at which time they would pass from their father’s ownership into their husband’s possession, thus assuring that they would never have the chance to vote; theoretically, any adult sons living at home would be similarly disenfranchised.

Certainly women COULD vote under such a system if they were the heads of their own household, but the only time that this would happen would be when a woman was widowed, and then only until such time as she remarried or moved in with an adult male relative.

Matt Chancey is also on very intimate terms with Doug Phillips, the president and founder of VisionForum Ministries, a major homeschooling curriculum company. Doug Phillips is described by Matt Chancey as being his dear friend and mentor, while Phillips in turn praises as his own intellectual hero one of the most virulent racists of the 19th century, Robert L. Dabney; Phillips has authored a book , Robert Louis Dabney: The Prophet Speaks.
Like his cohorts Doug Phillips, Nathaniel Darnell, Justin Turley, Peter Bradrick, and other Vision Forum afficianados, Matt considers the Confederacy to be the most "Christian" nation to ever exist.
History texts sold by VisionForum are revised in order to portray the South as the protagonist of the Civil War; not surprisingly, many young folks who have been educated using VisionForum materials are associated with Southern secessionist movemnts, and many hold views like this:"Hey there! Do me a favor please, check out my latest blog post and vote for Matt Chancey for Man of the Year. Spread the word; we need him to win!!! He's a good Confederate. :-) ...Spencer"

This particular young man also has a blog, Books, Bones, Bricks, and Bullets, where he describes himself thusly:"My name is Spencer. I am for the literal six-day interpretation of the Creation account as found in the book of Genesis. I am for my country and its military, and I will give my support to those who defend this nation and its people, even if it means that we are forced to wage war. Biden and Palin, "Tests" and Predictions

The strange series of parallels between the McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden campaigns just keeps growing.

First there was Jeremiah Wright, and his parallel in the McCain/Palin camp, Thomas Murthee, the Third Wave witchhunter who launched Palin's political career.

Then there was Bill Ayers and his Palin doppelganger, the militant Alaskan secessionist and founder of the Alaskan Independence Party, Joe Vogler. Vogler had sought and received sponsorship from Iran to address the UN on the subject of Alaskan secession but was murdered in 1993 in a "plastic explosives deal gone bad."

We had ACORN on the left, and the purging of swing-state voter rolls on the right.

Then there was the abortion issue.
Palin castigated Obama for failing to vote in favor of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in Illinois ( he voted "present" instead), even though Sarah in effect did likewise in Alaska by denying the Alaskan state legislature's request for extra debates on two anti-abortion bills (one requiring minors to obtain parental consent before having abortions and another outlawing partial-birth abortion except to save the life of the mother) and by refusing to allow the bills to be attached to the agenda of a special legislative session being held on her TOP legislative priority -- a new natural gas pipeline -- saying,
"Alaskans know I am pro-life and have never wavered in my belief in the sanctity of every human life. These issues are so important they shouldn't be diluted with oil and gas deliberations."

And, latest but not least, there's this.
Speaking at a fundraiser in Seattle on Sunday night, Joe Biden said:
“Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here . . . we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

Palin jumped on this immediately, saying,
"Biden's statement is the most bizarre yet. What the heck does that mean? Biden was suggesting that Obama is not prepared for the job. Even Biden believes that Obama is not ready to lead."

....and of course the right wing conspiracy nuts had a field day, twisting Biden's words into a dark insinuation that perhaps plans have already been made for just such a "test", should Obama be elected, and that Biden has prior knowledge of such plans.

But, look what was coming out of the Third Wave Church Movement (Palin's church is a participant in the Third Wave) back in September, a FULL MONTH before Biden's statement:

Then Karen Fink came into my office to share the following revelation she had this past Friday with increasing weight on her heart ever since:She received the scripture Gen. 50:3,"A period of NATIONAL MOURNING". She then saw Sarah Palin standing alone and she was mantled with the American flag. The flag was upside down because things are inverted (upside down) right now. I knew she was stepping into an office that she was mantled for." At this time I have a STRONG sense that we must pray for our President and Vice President and their families. Also pray for the candidates running for election. Something is imminent so we MUST pray to avert what is coming or to minimize it's impact.

Now, this in itself would hold little significance, were it not for the fact that Sarah Palin is a member of Mary Glazier's PRAYER GROUP -- McCain's vice presidential cantidate is a party to this stuff.

On June 13, 2008 Mary Glazier told attendees at the "Opening the Gate of Heaven on Earth" conference, who represented many of the New Apostolic Reformation's top leaders, that she had been present at the inception of Sarah Palin's political career and that Palin was in her personal prayer group :
"There was a twenty-four year old woman that God began to speak to about entering into politics. She became a part of our prayer group out in Wasilla. Years later, became the mayor of Wasilla. And last year was elected Governor of the state of Alaska. Yes! Hallelujah! At her inauguration she dedicated the state to Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!"

Hallelujah indeed.

Things devolve from there - the Third Wave stigmatizes much of Protestant and Catholic Christianity but it vilifies and literally demonizes Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and all non-Christian religions and belief systems as manifestations of "witchcraft", to be driven from the Earth by "spiritual warfare" and by a physical, end-time, purifying last-generation army.

Sarah Palin Failed to Act to Help Outlaw Partial Birth Abortions in Alaska

Amanda Carpenter wrote,

"Palin specifically attacked Obama for his votes against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act as an Illinois State Senator. “His position on this and on life has been his vote against legislation--three times voting against legislation that would provide medical care to a baby born having been a survivor of an abortion,” she said. “It's very appalling and I think if more Americans could understand how absolutely extreme that position is there would be a heckuva lot more outrage than we've already seen.”

Sarah has heckuva lot of room to talk.... NOT!
To begin with, Obama didn't vote against the anti-abortion legislation in question, rather, he disagreed with the wording of the bill, so he abstained, voting, "present", a move for which he caught "a heckuva lot" of flak from prochoice groups, by the way. But, it seems that when partial birth abortion was up for discussion in Alaska last spring, Sarah Palin was just too busy to bother with it.

In April, Governor Palin denied the Alaska state legislature's request for extra debates on two anti-abortion bills, one requiring minors to obtain parental consent before having abortions and another outlawing partial-birth abortion except to save the life of the mother. After state senators failed to reach agreement, the chamber's president tried to attach them to the agenda of a special legislative session being held on Palin's top legislative priority: a new natural gas pipeline.

Palin demurred, saying,

"Alaskans know I am pro-life and have never wavered in my belief in the sanctity of every human life," she said in a statement. "These issues are so important they shouldn't be diluted with oil and gas deliberations."

RIIIIIGGGGHHHHT..................Like other Republicans before her, Palin made lots of noise during her campaign about her "pro-life" position, but when the time came to act against abortion, she did NOTHING.

Sarah Palin is all for saving babies' lives alright... as long as the saving their lives doesn't get in the way of more important political business, such as gas pipelines.

Fact is, it seems that every time Sarah points her perfectly enameled fingertip at Obama, three more are pointing straight back at her.

Republicans point towards Obama's whacko preacher, whom he has DISAVOWED, but Palin has yet to disavow Pastor Murthee, the African pastor renowned as a witch hunter -- in fact, she publically credits her political success to Murthee's anointing at Wasilla Assembly of God.

Republicans have been insinuating for MONTHS that Obama isn't a loyal American, and last week Sarah Palin has accused him outright of "palling around with terrorists", but she and her husband did these very things when they were members of the Alaskan Independence Party -- Todd and Sarah Palin wanted to see their state to secede from the Union, and the Alaskan Independence Party's founder, Joe Vogler, collaborated with IRAN to the end that it should do so.

Joe Vogler is also quoted as saying,

"My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any means at hand"

AND

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American
government, and I won't be buried under their damn flag. I'll be buried in
Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

Somehow, "God damn America" pales in comparison.

Face it, the only thing Palin has in her favor is that she claims to be prolife, and when she had a chance to strike against partial birth abortions in her own state, , she didn't -- she was too busy pushing her political agenda, trying to get a gas pipeline approved.

Palin has the reputation of being a good, solid, born again Christian, but she rails and she lies and she slings mud, whereas Obama, whom most would say is at best a NewAgey, watered down sort of Christian, does none of these things.
While he is wrong when it comes to abortion and when life begins, in all other aspects, Obama has behaved in a more Christian way than John McCain and especially Sarah Palin -- no matter how much people insult him, revile him and lie about him, throughout his campaign Barack Obama has conducted himself as a Christian should, with dignity and charity, in a manner befitting a President of the United States.

Voter Purges and Deja vu.... Election 2008 has the potential to turn into Florida all over again

Army 1st Lt. Kevin Furey of Helena is furious.

That's because Furey, a former Democratic state representative from Missoula, found out Friday that his right to vote was challenged by the Montana Republican Party.
Furey got the news just days before he will ship off to Kuwait and then Iraq for his second tour of duty.
"It is ironic that at the same time I am about to return to Iraq to help build a democracy that my own right to vote is being challenged at home for partisan purposes. These challenges are a blatant and offensive attempt to suppress the rights of voters," Furey said in a telephone interview from Chicago, where he was on leave visiting his ailing grandmother.
Furey joins perhaps millions of Americans who may find themselves fighting for their right to vote in the Nov. 4 presidential election because of an increasing number of legal battles across the country regarding voting rights.
On Tuesday, the Montana Republican Party jumped into the fray when it challenged the eligibility of 6,000 registered voters in six counties that historically are Democratic strongholds.

Today, Lieutenant Furey released the following statement:

"It is ironic that at the same time I am about to return to Iraq to help build a democracy that my own right to vote is being challenged at home for partisan purposes. These challenges are a blatant and offensive attempt to suppress the rights of voters."

Republicans..... continue their efforts to fight what they see as possible voter fraud with questions about cleaning the voter rolls.Two days before the state Republican Party withdrew its challenges of several thousand registered voters in the state based on address discrepancies, Montana's former U.S. senator, Conrad Burns, e-mailed every county elections official in the state asking for the last time the county had “purged” its list of registered voters.

“It appears as though Georgia is going out of its way to look to purge voters. They are going beyond what’s allowed for by federal law,” Jon Greenbaum, an attorney with the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights told CBS News. “

"The GOP continues to resist attempts to subpoena Michael Connell, a shady Republican computer operative who programmed the 2000 Bush-Cheney web site. Connell was also hired by former Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell in 2004 to tabulate the Ohio vote count. Under Connell, Ohio's vote totals were shunted to a computer bank in the same basement in Chattanooga, Tennessee, that housed the servers of the Republican National Committee. In the early hours of the morning after election day, vote totals mysteriously began shifting from Kerry to Bush, swinging the 2004 election. Connell's cyber-security industry colleague Stephen Spoonamore, a Republican and former McCain supporter, has said that Connell may be able to shed light on vote count rigging in the 2008 vote count as well. Attorneys in the King-Lincoln-Bronzeville civil rights lawsuit have thus far been unable to secure Connell's sworn testimony.

As the moment of truth arrives, McCain-Palin attacks based on race, alleged "terrorist" ties and more are sure to increasingly dominate the GOP campaign. · “Christ has not redeemed us by giving His life as a ransom for our sins in order that He might release us. God never kept man captive in sin. The truth is Christ paid no man’s debt.”

Jeremiah Wright is now famous for his "God damn America" sermon, and since Sarah's dive into the mudpits last week, we've all gotten an earful of Obama's "relationship" with Bill Ayers, but, how about the terrorists that Sarah has been "pal-in" around with?

At The Salon, David Talbot writes this concerning the Palin's unamerican activities:

"My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any means
at hand."

This was former revolutionary terrorist Bill Ayers back in his old Weather Underground days, right? Imagine what Sarah Palin is going to do with this incendiary quote as she tears into Barack Obama this week.

Only one problem. The quote is from Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American who founded the Alaska Independence Party. Inconveniently for Palin, that's the very same secessionist party that her husband, Todd, belonged to for seven years and that she sent a shout-out to as Alaska governor earlier this year. ("Keep up the good work," Palin told AIP members. "And God bless you.")

AIP chairwoman Lynette Clark told me recently that Sarah Palin is her kind of gal.

"She's Alaskan to the bone ... she sounds just like Joe Vogler."

Talbot asks,

"So who are these America-haters that the Palins are pallin' around with?

Before his strange murder in 1993, party founder Vogler preached armed insurrection against the United States of America. Vogler, who always carried a Magnum with him, was fond of saying, "When the [federal] bureaucrats come after me, I suggest they wear red coats. They make better targets. In the federal government are the biggest liars in the United States, and I hate them with a passion. They think they own [Alaska]. There comes a time when people will choose to die with honor rather than live with dishonor. That time may be coming here. Our goal is ultimate independence by peaceful means under a minimal government fully responsive to the people. I hope we don't have to take human life, but if they go on tramping on our property rights, look out, we're ready to die."

This quote is from "Coming Into the Country," by John McPhee, who traipsed around Alaska's remote gold mining country with Vogler for his 1991 book. The violent-tempered secessionist vowed to McPhee that if any federal official tried to stop him from polluting Alaska's rivers with his earth-moving equipment, he would "run over him with a Cat and turn mosquitoes loose on him while he dies."

Vogler wasn't just a blowhard either. He put his secessionist ideas into action, working to build AIP membership to 20,000 -- an impressive figure by Alaska standards -- and to elect party member Walter Hickel as governor in 1990."

In 1991, in an interview that's now in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, Vogler cursed America, her government, and the flag:
"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he spoke at length of his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP. "And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

And, Vogler's murder came about as a result of a PLASTIC EXPLOSIVES deal gone bad:

The discovery of the remains, following an anonymous tip to the authorities, apparently resolves a year-and-a-half-old mystery concerning Mr. Vogler, a folk hero throughout the state who was 80 when he disappeared from his home here.
The blue tarp and duct tape in which the remains were wrapped, officials said, matched a description given by a convicted thief, Manfred West, who confessed last summer that he had killed Mr. Vogler in a plastic-explosives sale gone bad and had then buried him."

But it gets worse. Vogler was also pallin' around with hostile foreign governments:

"Vogler's greatest moment of glory was to be his 1993 appearance before the United Nations to denounce United States "tyranny" before the entire world and to demand Alaska's freedom. The Alaska secessionist had persuaded the government of Iran to sponsor his anti-American harangue.
That's right ... Iran. The Islamic dictatorship. The taker of American hostages. The rogue nation that McCain and Palin have excoriated Obama for suggesting we diplomatically engage. That Iran."

Yeah, that Iran.

Joe Biden's Charitable Donations

Over at The Khaki Elephant blog, the blog owner observes that "Biden Talks The Talk, Palin Walks The Walk", saying that "when it comes to charitable giving, Joe Biden talks the talk, but Sarah Palin walks the walk", and he had provided graphs and charts to show us that "according to contributions adjusted by gross income, the Palins are around 12x more charitable than the Bidens."

Now, that's the second time since breakfast that I've heard this same line of reasoning today ....on a talk forum this morning, I was directed to a YouTube video pertaining to Joe Biden's charitable donations last year, or the lack thereof.

Bob wrote,
"As for that article you posted from the Huffington Post,none of that even checks out at all.It's just talking points for Obama.
Now,I have a good You Tube link that brings out documented proof about Obama,the person even tells you exactly what to Google so you can check it out for yourself.

After watching the video, I responded:
"Bob, that YouTube site didn't have a lot of facts that I could check out. It was mostly music and sound effects and was designed to appeal to its audience's emotions, rather than their intellect. I did google "Biden charitable donations" and saw that he was recorded as giving $369 yearly to charity, but all that that tells me is that:

A.) he isn't using charitable contributions as a tax deduction
AND
B.)that any deductions he may be making over $369 per year are not a matter of public record."

Three hundred sixty-nine dollars a year... what a piddly amount. Charities and such are a big deal in Washington, socially and politically. Certainly someone of Biden's stature can afford to give more, and Joe's been in politics long enough to know that money given to charity is money well spent, when it comes to raising oneself in the eyes of one's peers and the voting public.

But maybe Joe doesn't care what people think. Maybe that's because he's such a tightwad that he only gives away $369 yearly and doesn't care who knows it or what that will do to him politically, or maybe he doesn't care because he's obeying Jesus's instructions regarding charitable giving:

Mat 6:2 Therefore when thou doest [thine] alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Mat 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: Mat 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Now, taking into account that the Palins are very upfront about both their Pentecostal Christian faith and the amount of money they "give" to charity (and recieve back again in the form of tax deductions and social and political attaboys)....
... WHO'S talking the talk, and who's walking the walk?

Pot, meet Kettle: McCain's Radical Pal, David Ifshin

Over the weekend Sarah Palin took the opening dive into the pre-election mudpit with her accusation that Obama has been guilty of "palling around with terrorists".
This was not a reference to Middle Eastern terrorists -- at least not overtly -- but derives from the fact that Obama once served on the same non-profit community board as former 60's radical Bill Ayers.

Back when Obama was a little boy, Ayers was one of the founders of the Weather Underground, a terrorist organization responsible for a number of bombings in the 60's. Since then, the Weather Underground has gone out of existance, and Ayers has become a university professor who once hosted a community fundraiser for Obama's campaign at his house. Obama, though he never knew Ayers in his radical days, has repeatedly denounced his radical, violent past.

But, according to Marc Cooper of the Huffington Post, McCain has a radical pal in his closet as well -- one of the most prominent of Vietnam-era student radicals, David Ifshin, the same David Ifshin who denounced America on Radio Hanoi as McCain sat locked up as a POW.
Ifshin led the takeover of his Syracuse university campus , aided radicals trying to shut down Washington DC with streets protests in May 1971, and went with folksinger Phil Ochs to Uruguay, where they joined a local university takeover, got arrested and were deported.

Like Ayers, Ifshin grew up and went mainstream following the 60's. Ayers became a university professor, whereas Ifshin went into politics and became General Counsel to the Bill Clinton campaign as well as a leader in pro-Israeli causes. Also like Ayers, Ifshin never renounced nor apologized for his radical past until the day he died in 1996, and apparently McCain had no problem with that.
Cooper writes:
"Senator John McCain forged a close personal friendship with Ifshin, as well as a working political alliance. Together they worked to establish the Institute for Democracy in Vietnam and partnered up on the issue of normalization of relations with Vietnam.

As recently as two years ago, speaking at Columbia College, McCain affectionately and warmly recalled his relationship with Ifshin saying:

"We worked together in an organization dedicated to promoting human rights
in the country where he and I had once come for different reasons. I came to
admire him for his generosity, his passion for his ideals, for the largeness of
his heart, and I realized he had not been my enemy, but my countryman . . . my
countryman ...and later my friend. His friendship honored me. We disagreed over
much. Our politics were often opposed, and we argued those disagreements. But we worked together for our shared ideals."

That John McCain is unrecognizable from the man who today stands behind the scurrilous attacks suggesting that Barack Obama pals around with terrorists because Bill Ayres - when Obama was literally eight years old--stupidly fancied himself an armed revolutionary.
The old John McCain was able to overcome his own repulsion against a young man who went on the radio station of the enemy who was holding and torturing him and built a warm friendship with him. If Obama were to run commercials today criticizing McCain for hanging out with the Tokyo Rose of the Vietnam era, it would be nearly as execrable as the McCain campaign's current smears around Bill Ayres."

I agree.
In case you haven't noticed, folks, in the words of Tennessee Williams, there's "a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room... there ain't nothin' more powerful than the odor of mendacity."

You can smell it, hanging all around this election and around Governor Palin in particular ... and yes, Tennessee, it smells like death.

Falwell said, "What we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact, God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve."
Robertson replied, "Well, Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror, we haven't begun to see what they can do to the major population."Falwell said, "The ACLU has got to take a lot of blame for this. And I know I'll hear from them for this, but throwing God...successfully with the help of the federal court system...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen."

All three men -- Wright, Falwell and Robertson -- said that God was judging -- damning -- the American people for tolerating sin in our midst. The only difference was that Wright "damned"America for the sins of racism, slavery, and genocide, whereas Robertson and Falwell said she was damned for permitting homosexuality, abortion, and sexual immmorality.

Now, ALL of these things are sins, and I was always taught that "sin is sin", but I guess the sins of racism, genocide, and oppressing minorities and the poor for the last three centuries just aren't as "damnable" as are the sins of homosexuality, paganism, and sexual immorality...

....or maybe the difference is that when it comes to the sin of racism and oppressing the poor, SOME people just aren't quite as willing to GIVE a "Damn."

"On June 8, 2008 Palin was publicly blessed, with the “laying on of hands” before six thousand Wasilla area church members, by Head Wasilla Assembly of God Pastor Ed Kalnins and on the same day both Kalnins and Palin described, at a “Masters Commission” ceremony at the Wasilla Assembly of God church, how she had been blessed prior to winning the Alaska governorship by an African cleric known for driving the “spirit of witchcraft” out of a town in Kenya, after which town supposedly crime rates dropped “almost to zero.”

Sarah Palin’s churches are actively involved in a resurgent movement that was declared heretical by the Assemblies of God in 1949. This is the same ‘Spiritual Warfare’ movement that was featured in the award winning movie, “Jesus Camp,” which showed young children being trained to do battle for the Lord. At least three of four of Palin’s churches are involved with major organizations and leaders of this movement, which is referred to as The Third Wave of the Holy Spirit or the New Apostolic Reformation. The movement is training a young “Joel’s Army” to take dominion over the United States and the world."

Joel's Army.... no big surprise there -- dangerous, but still just your everyday garden variety dominionist nuts. But, it gets worse. Palin's former church in Wasilla is part of the virulently anti-Catholic Third Wave Movement, declared heretical by the General Counsel of the Assemblies of God not once, but twice, in 1949 and again in 2000. Writes Wilson:

"The Third Wave is a revival of the theology of the Latter Rain tent revivals of the 1950s and 1960s led by William Branham and others. It is based on the idea that in the end times there will be an outpouring of supernatural powers on a group of Christians that will take authority over the existing church and the world. The believing Christians of the world will be reorganized under the Fivefold Ministry and the church restructured under the authority of Prophets and Apostles and others anointed by God. The young generation will form “Joel’s Army” to rise up and battle evil and retake the earth for God. While segments of this belief system have been a part of Pentecostalism and charismatic beliefs for decades, the excesses of this movement were declared a heresy in 1949 by the General Council of the Assemblies of God, and again condemned through Resolution 16 in 2000.
The Third Wave, also known as the New Apostolic Reformation, is a network of Apostles, many of them grouped around C. Peter Wagner, founder of the World Prayer Center. This center, which was built in coordination with Ted Haggard and his New Life Church in Colorado Springs, was featured in an article by Jeff Sharlet in Harpers, May 2005, “Soldiers of Christ.”

Wilson writes,
"Wagner’s top leaders often conduct spiritual warfare campaigns against the demons that block the acceptance of their brand of Christian belief, such as ‘Operation Ice Castle’ in the Himalayas in 1997. Several of their top prophets and generals of intercession spent weeks in intensive prayer to “confront the Queen of Heaven.” This queen is considered by them to be one of the most powerful demons over the earth and is the Great Harlot of Mystery Babylon in Revelation. (The “Great Harlot [or 'whore'] of Mystery Babylon” theme also figures prominently in the sermons of Texas megachurch pastor and Christians United For Israel founder John Hagee, former endorser of John McCain’s 2008 presidential bid.) Wagner and his group also claim that the Queen of Heaven is Diana, the pagan god of the biblical book Ephesians and the god of Mary veneration in the Roman Catholic Church."

And, Ana Mendez, a former Haitian voodoo priestess turned born-again preacher, also seems to be taking personal credit for the deaths of Princess Diana and Mother Theresa:

"Following the ‘Operation Ice Castle’ prayer excursion which included planting a flag for Jesus on Mt. Everest, one of the lead prayer intercessors from the excursion, Ana Mendez, reported that there had been dramatic results including, “millions have come to faith in Asia… and other things happened which I believe are also connected…an earthquake had destroyed the basilica of Assisi, where the Pope had called a meeting of all world religions; a hurricane destroyed the infamous temple ‘Baal-Christ’ in Acapulco, Mexico; the Princes Diana died… and Mother Theresa died in India, one of the most famous advocates of Mary as Co-Redeemer.”

Heresies... dominionists... and former voodoo priestesses turned Christian, praying Mother Theresa and Princess Diana to death from the top of Mount Everest, all in the name of -- Jesus?
Oh, my.

What can you say about a thing like that? It seems that the inmates are now running the asylum, and, not content with that, they are also running for the office of Vice President of the United States.

Election 2008 just keeps getting crazier and crazier.

The newest wave of nuttiness hit this week, as reported by Ronald Maxwell of the Huffington Post, and other sources.
Maxwell writes,
"In 1644 the poet John Milton commented on similar book burnings in England. "Who kills a man kills a reasonable creature, God's image, but he who destroys a good book kills reason itself, kills the image of God, as it were, in the eye." At the same time, the urge to ban, censor and prohibit was being carried, along with smallpox and typhus, to the New World. The first recorded book burning in Massachusetts took place in 1650. The Puritan authorities condemned and confiscated a religious pamphlet by William Pynchon. The book, though not the man, was burned by the public executioner in the Boston commons. A few years later some women in nearby Salem were less fortunate. ...Which brings us to Pastor Muthee, the guest pastor from Kenya who had prayed over Sarah Palin when she was running for Governor of Alaska. According to the Christian Science Monitor,

“Muthee began his life in ministry in Africa by hunting down a local woman named Mama Jane after proclaiming her a witch. Six months of fervent prayer and research identified the source of the witchcraft as a local woman called Mama Jane, who ran a “divination” centre called the Emmanuel Clinic in Kiambu, Kenya. Her alleged involvement in fortune-telling and the fact that she lived near the site of a number of fatal car accidents led Pastor Muthee to publicly declare her a witch responsible for the town’s ills, and order her to offer up her soul for salvation or leave Kiambu. After Pastor Muthee declared Mama Jane a witch, the townspeople became suspicious and began to turn on her, demanding that she be stoned. Public outrage eventually led the police to raid her home, where they fired gunshots, killing a pet python which they believed to be a demon.”

Also, according to The Huffington Post, in August, 1999, Paul Harris wrote the following report, which appeared in Britain’s Sunday Telegraph under the headline, "Hundreds burnt to death in Tanzanian witch-hunt":

“Lynch mobs have killed hundreds of Tanzanians whom they accuse of witchcraft as black magic hysteria sweeps East Africa. Most of the usually elderly victims have been beaten or burnt to death by gangs of youths. Some old women have been singled out simply because they have red eyes — regarded as a sign of sorcery by their assailants. The condition is actually caused by years of toiling in smoky kitchens cooking family meals. … Police say 357 suspected witches have been killed in the past 18 months, but the Ministry of Home Affairs believes that the true figure is much higher. A departmental survey said as many as 5,000 people were lynched between 1994 and 1998.”

Some of these nuts are even attacking little children, declaring them to be witches:

"Mary Sudnad, 10, grimaces as her hair is pulled into corn rows by Agnes, 11, but the scalp just above her forehead is bald and blistered. Mary tells her story fast, in staccato, staring fixedly at the ground.

'My youngest brother died. The pastor told my mother it was because I was a
witch. Three men came to my house. I didn't know these men. My mother left the
house. Left these men. They beat me.'
She pushes her fists under her chin to show how her father lay, stretched out on his stomach on the floor of their hut, watching. After the beating there was a trip to the church for 'a deliverance'.
A day later there was a walk in the bush with her mother. They picked poisonous 'asiri' berries that were made into a draught and forced down Mary's throat. If that didn't kill her, her mother warned her, then it would be a barbed-wire hanging. Finally her mother threw boiling water and caustic soda over her head and body, and her father dumped his screaming daughter in a field. Drifting in and out of consciousness, she stayed near the house for a long time before finally slinking off into the bush.Mary was seven. She says she still doesn't feel safe. She says:
'My mother doesn't love me."
And, finally, a tear streaks down her beautiful face.

Now, in all fairness to Murthee, I DO NOT know if children were targeted in any of his personal "witch hunts", but his activities certainly fed the superstitious mindset that has led to the murder and torture of these little ones.Palin knew about Murthee's witch hunting -- that is the man's claim to fame, and it was why he had been invited to preach at the Wasilla Assembly of God Church, on the day that he anointed Sarah Palin.

According to an article by Digital Journal, Palin has actually gone on record as linking her success to Murthee, who some would say is a modern day African Cotton Mather who harasses crazy old women from their homes:

" It was upon the basis of this anti-witch crusade that Muthee came to preach at Sarah Palin’s church in Wasilla in 2005, as Palin was preparing to campaign for Governor of Alaska, and then again in 2008. When Muthee first visited Alaska, Sarah Palin, hearing of Muthee’s witch-fighting prowess, asked Muthee to pray over her to give her the power to become Governor of Alaska. Palin believes that Muthee’s ability to gain the favor of God is what won the election for her, not the voters. Because of the supernatural powers of Muthee, God himself appointed her to be Governor.

Palin is quoted as gushing,

Given the way she’s handled Troopergate, I wouldn’t vote for Palin no matter what party she belonged to, no matter how she has handled her family life.

Sarah Palin made a big splash earlier this month, billing herself as the All-American Christian Mom, and as a “Washington outsider.” She may be a Washington outsider, but from the way she’s thrown her weight around in Alaska and acted as though she’s above the law up there, I’d say that she is only an outsider in DC because until now, she has lived too far away to be an insider — behavior-wise, she’s looking like just another bullying, spin-talking bigshot politician.

As for Palin being the All-American Christian Mom, I won’t second guess her faith — that’s between her and God — but I will second guess her witness. In faith, as in everything else, you can talk “policy” all day long, but in the end, it all comes down to behavior….and from what I’ve seen of Sarah Palin’s behavior in dealing with Troopergate, I am not impressed.

Irene, IMO, that’s because the Christianity of the Religious Right is laced through and through with idolatry.

To begin with, the Religious Right seems to see American Christianity as the only genuine sort, or at the very least sees American Christians as being somehow divided from their brethren in other countries, to the point where they place the concerns of their American brethren well ahead of the needs of Christians in other places, because they are, well, American Christians.
( I guess they forgot about Galatians 3:28 –“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” )

Within the context of the Body of Christ, national boundaries should not exist.
But, “God and Country” is a big catch phrase with the RR, as is “God and Guns.” With the RR, it seems to be always God “and” something, and never God alone.

C. S. Lewis called this problem “Being a “Christian and” Syndrome”.
Lewis said that this is what happens “when we link our faith to some other cause to which we are partial and say “this is the center of our faith.” And so we hear from our pulpits that the main focus for us must be Christianity and Marxism, or Christianity and Capitalism, or Christianity and Social Action, or Christianity and Gun Control, or Christianity and the Republican Platform, or Christianity and the Pro-life Movement or Christianity and the Twelve Step program or Christianity and Homosexual Rights movement or anything else you might want to insert there.
And the fact is, that as soon as you add an “And” to Christianity you have lost your focus. A Christian worldview speaks to all of those important issues; but every one of them is peripheral to who we are. We are not Christians AND something else; we are Christians, and we let our faith guide us in all other decisions of life.”

Wise man, that Lewis… and I think that were he alive today, he would see right through the posturing of the Religious Right.
I think that Jesus sees through it too, and through the Left as well (though at least most folks on the Left aren’t making hypocrites of themselves by claiming to be “the Christian party”) — not that many in the Religious Right or Left would accept Jesus if He came among them anyway. In fact, neither the Right nor the Left would have much use for Jesus Christ if He came among them today, incognito.

The Right would have trouble with His saying that we should not lay up treasure for ourselves on earth, but should instead lay up treasure in Heaven, and sell what we have and give to the poor; they would also have trouble with His advice to turn the other cheek and give a man your shirt as well, should he demand your cloak, and they would have BIG problems with His advice in Matthew 6:25, "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on…;" and the fact that He and His followers held their goods in common would be viewed with deep suspicion.

The Left would appreciate Jesus’s take on feeding the hungry and clothing the naked, but they would likely reject Jesus’s teachings on marriage and divorce: and in the eyes of the Left, Jesus’s statement in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" would brand Him as hopelessly narrow-minded and intolerant, if not an out and out religious bigot.

Today in America, as in 1st century Judea, foxes have holes, and birds of the air nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.

Talk about half-baked ideas....
This much of what he says is arguably true: "when women began to enter the work force en masse in the latter half of the 20th century, the overall supply of labor increased, obviously. As per the iron law of supply and demand, over the last 60 years, this increase in supply has somewhat outstripped the growth in the economy and the attendant demand for labor, which is why real wages are still lower in 2005 than in 1973. Combined with the ever-increasing tax burden, this decline in real wages is why both husband and wife must now work when previously the husband's labor alone would have sufficed."

However, his statement "Men's increasing unwillingness to marry stems primarily the feminized family court system... and the removal of paternal responsibility for the sexual behavior of young women" is pure hogwash.

Men have always been unwilling to marry, and that unwillingness stems in large part from the fact that many men would rather be able to have all the sex they want with no marital entanglements; this has been true since prehistory. The only difference between then and now is that thanks to the sexual revolution, it has become possible for more men to "get the milk for free", and get it more easily than in almost any society since the dawn of time. And, you can't tell me that WOMEN brought about the sexual revolution by themselves, and that MEN had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a society where that can have all the sex they want without any marital obligations.

But, don't blame the poor boys, they're only taking after their father -- ever since Adam, when mens' appetite for apples or other fruit gets them and society in trouble, they blame it on the ladies. But we couldn't expect them to man up and shoulder their share of the blame, now could we?

Another fresh bit of nonsense is Vox's idea that women's rights and ready access to abortion have brought about the shortage of women in southeast Asia.

Certainly more girl babies are being aborted in India and China nowadays, thanks to ease of abortion and ultrasound tests which can determine the sex of an unborn child. But Vox and his sources need to look further than abortion to explain the shortage of Asian women, because the girl children who are now being murdered in abortion clinics are the same girl babies who would have been left to die on garbage heaps or sold into prostitution back in the kinder gentler days before women's rights ruined everything. Abortion is a terrible thing, don't get me wrong, but even if these women had not been aborted, they still would not be around to be counted -- the number of women able to stand and be counted in Asia would be the same either way.

Of course, being sold into prostitution IS a darn sight better than being aborted, killed outright, or left to die in a ditch by your father for having the bad sense to be born female, and (tongue firmly in cheek here) prostitution has the added advantage of allowing men to have all the sex they can afford without marital entanglements, and without those pesky new-fangled women's rights....

There's a big discussion going on over on the Bayly Blog, regarding McCain's choice of a running mate. It seems that Governor Palin is every HyperP's dream of a cantidate, except for one fatal flaw.. she's a WOMAN!!!

LOL... seems you just can't please some people. These guys remind me of Jesus's observation regarding the Pharisees, recorded in Luke 7:32: “They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.”

Everybody lives under a spiritual microscope in PatrioCity, and if a cantidate has any fault at all, the patrios find it, magnify it, and complain about it. Even if one of their own were to run for office, there would still be that chorus of voices in the background, nitpicking.

….On another note, I was amused by Carmon Friedrich’s comment regarding Governor Palin:

“Does God not ordain the means as well as the end? Why does she get a pass on the leadership issue and career mother problem just because she has the right views on abortion and helps make McCain more electable?”

Is it just me, or do I detect a trace of envy showing here, along with a slight whiff of the aroma of eau’de sour grapes?

In response, one TW reader wrote,
“Apart from our line by line analysis here, I actually have a hard time studying that poem too closely–if you can even call it a poem. More like a disgusting, disturbing mess of nonsense.”

Actually I find the poem itself to be rather well laid-out, it’s the content I have trouble with.

Christian marriage calls for two to become one. It does not call for one partner to cease to be, or be obliterated by being absorbed into the other.

The “lay you in the casket” line could be meant to echo how we die in Christ at baptism and lose our life in order to find it in Him, but those teachings are about baptism, and have NOTHING to do with marriage.

In a marriage, each partner should cease seeking their own selfish good, but neither partner is called upon to “die” in order to magnify the other, nor should either partner suffer loss of dignity. Rather, each partner should seek the other’s good and defend the other’s dignity — people do that when they love one another. A man or woman who loves his or her partner would not countenance their spouse "dying" or losing their dignity.

Also, any philosophy which teaches that either partner should “die” as part of marriage is in fact, anti-marriage and anti-life, since in Christian marriage, two become one, and such a “death” kills the whole organism. It takes the blending of two partners to make a marriage, and if either member ceases to be, the result is half an organism, which in turn also dies.

Moreover, the themes of laying in a casket and humiliation/loss of dignity have disturbing parallels in actual ritual abuse and occult initiation ceremonies, though I’m sure the author of this poem has little idea of the existance of such things. Nonetheless, the parallels are there, and the poem describes a union that more closely resembles occult pagan ritual than a Christian marriage. That’s why we must always “test the spirits”, and be as wise as serpents, but harmless as doves:

There are people who, under the auspices of Christianity, are doing this very same thing, who would homeschool our children to believe that the Southern slaveholders were the real heroes of the Civil War, that slavery was actually a rather benevolent institution, that the Holocaust never really happened or was greatly exaggerated, etc, etc, all in the name of creating "an ignorant populace loyal to their ideas and "values."

Now, all serpents are dangerous, but at least the atheistic, secular snakes make no bones about what they are -- like rattlesnakes, anyone with ears can hear their message, identify them, and avoid them.

These Christian "social engineers" are deadlier by far, because they spread their lies under the auspices of Christianity (sometimes quite sincerely -- many honestly believe themselves to be doing God's work), and those who fall into their trap do so believing that they are following Christ. Call 'em Copperheads, because like copperheads, their victims aren't aware that they have been sitting in Satan's synagogue and listening to the lies of the Snake until it's too late, and they've been bitten and pumped full of poison.

I had a comment get stuck in moderation over on Flashpoint the other day, and I just reposted it there this morning. It was a little late to do that, since the election is over, but I just had to thank Rusty Boudreaux for my new moniker. I'm turning 50 today, and it's the best present I've received so far!

Anyhow, Rusty wrote,

As for “spamming”, for the most part, I usually post multiple comments to a blog only when someone wishes to debate, as we are doing now. Posting once in hopes of sparking a debate (or twice or more in cases of trying to fit a 2000 word comment into a 500 word comment limit, or for purposes adding pertinent information) isn’t considered spamming, no matter how many blogs you comment on — it’s called TROLLING.

So, yes, call me a crusading carpetbagger — I’ll wear the label with pride - but do get your terms right — it’s crusading TROLLING carpetbagger, not crusading SPAMMING carpetbagger.

Matt Chancey's Unorthodoxy: There's Nothing Funny About It.

In response to a recent article in The Dothan Eagle, which describes the rather odd political and religious views of PSC cantidate Matt Chancey and his wife, Jennie, one reader wrote,

"The rest of the country is laughing at Jennie.”

And, that’s a shame.

This is America, and everybody should be able to believe as they choose without being laughed at. My only point was that if people happen to have views that are “out there”, they ought to be willing to let the voters know about them, should they choose to run for public office, BUT, such scrutiny (and even criticism or denouncement as being cultic) is not the same as ridicule.

That being said however, I’d like to point out that being a fundamentalist does not automatically equate to being an extremist nut or a cult follower. A fundamentalist, strictly speaking, is someone who believes the fundamental, historically orthodox doctrines and truths of his or her religion, without a lot of trendy, man-made innovations (such as the blessing of gay marriages or the idea that the Bible forbids female suffrage or mandates homeschooling), and it is ironic that the churches which are most often described as fundamentalist are usually those unorthodox churches and cults which have gained a reputation for being the nut-wards of Christianity.

The churches have brought this situation upon themselves, to a large extent, beginning in the 1980’s when the televangelists first started to gain a large following. Many people were converted to Christianity as a result of the televised altar calls (which was and is a very GOOD thing), and many “fundamentalist” churches were happy to ride on the coat-tails of the TV preachers, gaining new members (and bigger Sunday collection plate hauls), even though it meant that they began to adopt the ideas of the TV preachers, ideas which in some cases were NOT fundamental to historical Christianity; then in the 1990’s, Gary North and Phil Lancaster and the other bright young things in the Patriarchal/Agrarian/Dominionist movement got the Y2K disaster scare rolling, and many preachers and congregations bought into that, and when the televagelists fell to scandal and Y2K didn’t happen, the churches shared in the pop-preachers’ discreditation and as a consequence wore the resultant portion of egg facial.

But, it appears that the churches haven’t learned from the experience.

One look at the writings of Doug Phillips, Ovid Need (Jennie Chancey’s step-father, who calls Pope John Paul II an antichrist), Gary North, or Bruce Ware shows that they are certifiably outside the fold of mainstream, historical Christianity, with their talk of arranged marriages, stoning people to death, etc, and yet their books are selling like hotcakes in “fundamentalist" circles, especially throughout the South.....

...... and still we who are mainstream, orthodox, fundamental Christians wonder why people outside the church are calling all fundamentalists and even all Christians into question?

I’d say that it’s NO wonder, no wonder at all. If we in the churches do not police our own, and call a cult a cult when we see one, we shouldn’t blame non-Christians for pointing out that the emperor has no clothes.

Chancey's bizarre ideas pertaining to suffrage are quite enough... no need to "dig up dirt" on him, though I hear that the Sudan can be a mighty dusty place, LOL.

The voting standard in the United States is "one man, one vote", it has been "one man, one vote" for a long time now, and that applies whether the voter is male or female, head of household or not.

Apparently, in the Chancey household's ideal world, fathers would vote for the household, and all daughters would live at home "serving their fathers" (google "Ladies against Feminism" and "Being Your Father's Daughter") until the time of their arranged courtship and marriage, at which time they would pass from their father's ownership into their husband's possession, thus assuring that they would never have the chance to vote; theoretically, any adult sons living at home would be similarly disenfranchised.

Certainly women COULD vote under such a system if they were the heads of their own household, but the only time that this would happen would be when a woman was widowed, and then only until such time as she remarried or moved in with an adult male relative; in Chancey's world, to ensure that widows remarried promptly, they might even be encouraged to avail themselves of Christian matchmaking/arranged-marriage services, such as this one, run by Jennie Chancey's parents. (Jenny Chancey's father is the Reverend Ovid Need; he is a prolific writer, for some samples of his work and his rather amazing views concerning Jews, Catholics, and women, go here and here and here.)

Head-of-household voting, arranged courtship and marriages, bride-prices.... that's NOT the American way, Josh -- in fact, it's SO unAmerican that most folks would never dream that ANYONE in this day and age (other than fundamentalist Moslems) could hold such views, much less an educated man who is running for political office in the United States of America!

But, Matt Chancey and those close to him DO appear to hold such views, and the voters of Alabama need to know about it.

Alabama voters should be made aware that Matt Chancey opposes women's suffrage on religious grounds.

Matt Chancey and his wife Jennie believe that it is a sin (or at the very least, is highly inadvisable) for women to vote, hold political office, attend college, or work outside the home. These views are expounded upon at great length on Jennie Chancey's website,Ladies Against Feminism.

Matt Chancey is also on very intimate terms with Doug Phillips, the president and founder of VisionForum Ministries, a major homeschooling curriculum company. Phillips also teaches that God doesn't allow women to vote or hold office.
Doug Phillips is described by Matt Chancey as being his dear friend and mentor, while Phillips in turn praises as his own intellectual hero one of the most virulent racists of the 19th century, Robert L. Dabney, and has authored a book , Robert Louis Dabney: The Prophet Speaks.

...and Matt is not above a bit of internet sleight of hand, either, when it will aid his political ends, as shown by this article, from the Washington Post.

One writer, Joshua C---, has pointed out on several forums that "Jennie's point was that gender should have nothing to do with voting if you have a system where a vote represents a family. In a sense, her position is actually very "progressive" since it would give representation to children, whereas they are completely left out of the suffrage question today."

Josh writes, "Keep in mind that people do have personal convictions......People used to vote as a family and also people who owned land used to vote, because their vote affected their land. I wonder if Cynthia Gee knew this? And if so, then she is ashamed of her founding fathers because that's how they voted!"

Our Constitution guarantees that no American who has reached the age of 18 shall be denied the the right to vote without due process, regardless of race, sex, or creed, or income level.

Our founding fathers weren't perfect --it is true that when they founded this country, they designed our laws in such a way so that "people used to vote as a family" -- or, more properly put, only heads of household could vote -- and those same laws allowed ONLY people who owned land -- IE, those people who were relatively WEALTHY -- to vote as well; those same founding fathers also wrote the laws of our land so as to allow some people to keep other people as slaves.

Am I ashamed of those things? You bet I am, but is Matt Chancey? Or, in his heart of hearts, would he like to see a return to a time in our history when only rich white landowners like himself could exercise the right to vote?

The voters of Alabama deserve to know the answer to that question, BEFORE they go to the polls. Certainly people have a right to their personal convictions, but the voters have the right to know that Matt Chancey's convictions concerning suffrage and a good many other things are very much at odds with what is considered right and decent in America today.

Concerning certain Patriocentric mailing lists, someone recently wrote,

“….they ban women from posting on doctrinal issues as they believe that if a woman posted on doctrinal issues they might “accidentally” teach a man something.”

One thing I’d love to ask the people who believe this sort of thing (of course they’d never actually answer) is that if it is wrong for a man to learn something from a woman, why did Jesus send the women to tell the men that He had risen, and then upbraid the men for not believing the women’s testimony?

I guess Jesus must have been sinning whan He did that, but then, He really couldn’t help it - He didn’t have the HyperPs around to tell Him how His Father intended His creation to operate…

According to the Washington Post, this video "was taken on September 16, 2007, at Senator Tom Harkin's annual steak fry festivities in Iowa, an important ritual for Democratic presidential hopefuls. Yeah, right... men with Chancey's kind of principles USUALLY rise in politics -- you could say that they have the "right stuff" -- but when people who are full of such "right stuff" also attempt to pass themselves off as good, honest Christians, it gives the entire Church a big black eye, and it's up to the Church to warn folks about them:

Why Are They So Obsessed With Sex?

For the same reason that the whole world is obsessed with sex -- because they are carnally-minded.

Well, yes. That’s because almost everything that has happened since the Fall has procreation as its motivating force.

All creatures, including man, have certain instincts which are put in place to insure the survival of the species.
These insincts are alive and well in modern man — the sex drive itself (and its cultural expressions as seen in the varied courting and marriage customs of mankind) is an obvious example, but our drive to acquire and protect resources and territory, which is the basis for every economic system on earth and which accounts for the majority of mankind’s wars, stems from a man’s basic urge to protect his progeny and ensure that they survive and are not supplanted by ANOTHER man’s progeny (and here we also see the basis of kinism.)

Early man, once he had forgotten God and started to worship idols, fashioned gods for himself that reflected the urges behind his ideals. Since men had forgotten God, their lives had become “nasty, brutish and short”, and procreation was the best thing that happened to them. Likewise, mother-love was the closest thing in pagan man's experience to the unselfish, agape God-love that he so keenly missed but didn’t realize that he missed, and so he deified these things.

That’s how the fertility cults sprang up — man tends to deify the best things in his experience, and in the absence of God, procreation and mother-love and family were natural substitutes.

Since families (and by extension, villages, towns and nations) have to be fed, man created gods of the hunt, and later invented gods of agriculture and commerce — enter Mammon! Since families and their means of production need protection from those who would seek by force to better their families’ lot in life, Heroism, and fighting to defend and better one’s own and one’s people’s interests were deified as well, in the role of the Warrior/Protector.

So it went for all of the world’s cultures except for the Jews, who retained some contact with God, although even their perception of Him remained flawed by Original Sin.

Then along came Jesus.

Jesus approved of marriage, He blessed children, and He recognised the need for families in this earthly life, but He also taught that there was something MORE, something GREATER than mere continuance of earthly life, and He turned the old paradigm of procreation and acquisition on its ear, saying things like:

Seems the Kinists have a brand new blog, and that they don't much like all the publicity that their movement has been recieving lately.

I was looking at my sitemeter today, and I was led to this site, where the author complained that I and other bloggers "set(s) an a priori equalitarianism doctrine above scripture", and are "simply looking for whiskey from a bottle of wine. A kinder and gentler patriarchism, a traditionalism that will pass the sniff test of worldliness, and ultimately, feminism."

The writer ruefully concludes that "Kinism is nothing but orthodox Occidental Christianity, as it was and as it might again be." and that "Kinists are rather accustomed to attacks from the shadows. Rather than confront Kinists directly, its opponents, such as Cythia Gee, seek to use fashionable opinion to ruin lives and reputations. People have stopped arguing directly with Kinists on the merits, because they grew tired of losing the arguments in publicly humiliating ways. Their new strategy is to employ the tools of the terrorist. In all of this one thing is clear to me: the New Jerusalem is not Suffragette City."

Kinism is far more than racism, kinism is a blatant and insidious heresy, as it is essentially a deliberate division of the Body of Christ:

Col 3:10 And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Col 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond [nor] free: but Christ [is] all, and in all.

Kinism in its purest form is the worship of one’s own progenitors, the placing of one’s earthly father ahead of our Heavenly Father and the holding of one’s own bloodline and progeny in preferential place to of the Body of Christ.

We are all kin in Christ:
Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
…...because we now have only ONE father. The age of the Patriarchs is passed away, for God Himself is our ONE Patriarch, and there is no other before Him:

Mat 23:9 And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Thus we are all His children, and must be brothers and sisters indeed if we wish to dwell in Him.

Kinism is also a denial of the Holy Ghost, who came on Pentecost to undo the curse of Babel and unite men of all nations and tongues in one Church.

Further, since we have died to the world and the flesh and are alive in the Spirit, the family of God must come first, before mere blood relations.

It follows that Kinism is an abomination: it denies the Father, the Holy Ghost, and also the Son, for Jesus’s prayer for His followers is that they be one, without division:

Jhn 17:20 ¶ Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; Jhn 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

And, here is Jesus’s answer to Kinism:

An interesting discussion has been shaping up over on ThatMom's blog lately, about whether the HyperPatriarchal movement and their patriocentric views of women’s roles could be putting our homeschooling freedoms at risk. It seems that girls are getting shortchanged in some HyperP homes, and their education is being curtailed due to the fact that many in the movement maintain that higher education for girls is a waste, if not an outright sin.

Today the conversation took on a new, more sinister bent, as Chris Barnes wrote ,
"Any section of our government which is in violation with God Himself is invalid from the beginning. And chief among the rights given to us by God is that parents - and parents ALONE - are responsible for their children.
Last point - so that everyone understands the volatility of this issue: this is a “go to war” issue. Truth doesn’t matter here — the people in the Movement want to create a new perception, so that whenever people hear the word, “feminist", they will automatically associate it in their minds with a brainless “boy toy” who has had at least three abortions in college while moonlighting as a strident, man-and-baby-hating lesbian CEO.

Never mind the dissimiltude — people juggle disparate ideas in their heads all the time. Just repeat the same lie until it becomes part of the collective mentality, and people will believe it, however preposterous it may sound. In fact, the bigger and more illogical the lie, the more successful it will be: derived from Hitler’s propaganda techniques, the “Big Lie” theory maintains that people will believe a big lie more readily than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough, people will sooner or later come to believe it.

This is known in political circles as using a “talking point”.

As described by Wikipedia , a talking point is "an idea which may or may not be factual, usually compiled in a short list with summaries of a speaker’s agenda for public or private engagements. When used politically in this way, the typical purpose of a talking point is to propagandize, specifically using the technique of argumentum ad nauseam, i.e. continuous repetition within media outlets until accepted as fact."

And Now For Something Totally Different.....

I think it’s the same in small towns everywhere. Something breaks down, or something unusual happens, and the locals (the elders at the gate? ) have a conference about it.....

I remember in the Kansas town where I grew up, when one of the local boys, Denny “P”, got arrested. Now, Denny came from a big hillbilly family across the river in Missouri, and his mother ran a restaurant/beer joint. Mrs. P’s boys were known for getting drunk and coming over to the Kansas side of the river and raising H--- (she didn’t allow them to raise H--- in her restaurant), and getting arrested and thrown in jail.

Well, one weekend Denny had a snootful, and came over into town. He got stupid — moreso that usual — and as usual, he got arrested, and the newspaper where I worked published the fact in the police news, in embarrassing detail. Now, Mrs. P didn’t like that, and Denny’s brothers didn’t like it either, and the newspaper started to receive threatening phone calls.

I was at my desk, the day that it all came to a head. One of the ad clerks went outside to the newspaper-selling box in front of the building to get a copy of the previous day’s paper (we were sold out inside) and she came back in, white as a ghost, and told us that there was a rattlesnake in the paper-box. Sure enough, someone had put what turned out to be a nearly 6-foot rattlesnake in our paper-box.

The editor called Animal Control, but before the officer could arrive on the scene, a crowd of locals had gathered, pulling at their overall suspenders, eyeing the paper-box, and opening it a crack to peer inside and confirm that, yep, sure enough, that was a rattler inside, and a big one, too.

When the animal control officer arrived, an even bigger crowd gathered to watch her catch the snake and to offer advice, but catching a snake in a paper box is no easy task. Everybody had an idea for getting him out, but somehow nobody really wanted to be the one to try it. Eventually, the editor and the animal control officer managed to open the box slightly, tilt it forward, and slide a stick with a noose on one end into the box to catch the rattler. You should have seen them jump back when she pulled it out and held it up — and then everybody had an idea of what to do with it. A couple of people offered to fetch their gun and shoot it (but that was illegal, since we were in town), someone else wanted to make a belt out of its hide, and a couple of other more soft-hearted folks thought that someone ought to take it out into the country and turn it loose (but not on THEIR property, thank you very much!)

Eventually, the snake was put down, and I believe it was stuffed and used as a display in the biology department of a local school.

But OH, what a morning!

Lately, there has been a lot of talk around homeschooling/religious circles about Doug Phillips, founder of VisionForum, and pastor of the Boerne Christian Assembly, a hyper-patriarchal non-denomiational group where women are relegated to virtual slavery in their own homes, denied higher education, and are not permitted to participate in prayer in the church services, make prayer requests in church, or even receive communion unless it is served to them by their husband or another male member of the congregation.

But did you ever wonder what is BEHIND the extreme patriarchy movement?

It's not limited to the evangelical Protestant churches. Consider this: traditionally, Calvinists andCatholics don’t see eye to eye (to say the least!!!), but there has been an almost identical movement growing within the Roman Catholic Church since about 1980. These schismatic Catholics do not get along with the Catholic powers-that-be at all — they claim that the Pope is an impostor and that THEY are the only true Catholics left:

Now for the interesting thing: ideologically, Phillips’ Protestant patriarchalists and their Catholic counterparts are coming to have more in common with each other than they do with either traditional Protestantism or orthodox Catholicism. To begin with, both Protestant and the Catholic patriarchalists tend to be Dominionists/Reconstructionists (note that not all Dominionists are hyperpatriarchal, though most do espouse patriarchal ideology to a greater or lesser degree), and Dominionists tend to be quite involved with politics and finance. Some of the biggest names in this movement are also big names in finance and politics: think Pat Robertson, Greg Ahmenson, Marion T. Horvat, Anne Coulter, Christopher Ferrara, Roberto Fiore, Jerry Falwell, Paul Weyrich, Greg Bahnsen, Gary North, Gary DeMar, Kenneth Gentry, JimBob Duggar, David Chilton, Howard Phillips, D. James Kennedy, Marvin Olasky, etc.

In addition to their conservative stance on politics, a very significant number of these folks share rather similar ideas about the role of women, homeschooling, the Quiverfull movement, etc; AND, similar movements have also arisen within Judaism and within the Latter Day Saints.

It is this very fact -- that the same movement has also apparently infiltrated Catholicism, Mormonism, and Judaism -- which leads me to think that something other than religion is at work here, something not particularly concerned religious belief or practice at all — I say this not to cast aspersions upon the beliefs of non-Evangelicals, but the simple fact that Catholicism is very different from Calvinism shows us that whatever is driving this movement is not so much concerned with religious doctrine as it is with working to achieve its agenda through religious channels.The thing is organised like a corporation, or a hydra, and appears to be umbrella group which is trying to absorb MANY denominations, and bring them round to a certain common way of thinking, under the auspices of evangelism -- Phillips, et al are merely the corporate heads of the Protestant division. It’s almost like radical patriarchy is a religious theme in itself, and the Christian, Jewish and even the Moslem versions of it are mere variations on that theme; and, the Unification Church (Moonies) is dancing to this exact same tune, though to be fair, one must admit that the Unification Church has been hyper-patriarchal from the beginning.

Another thing that ALL of these “patriarchs” share is their claim to be restoring their respective religions to a purer form that was practiced in the past — with the Evangelicals it’s the 1800’s, with the Catholics it’s pre-Vatican II, etc; but in the past that they claim to be attempting to re-create, their respective denominations NEVER taught the kinds of things that these fellows are preaching now!

Of course, we should remember that at least some, if not most, cult leaders are not deliberately evil men: many sincerely believe they are doing the work of God. Usually they started out by trying their very best to serve God, but got sidetracked somewhere, often by their own egos and by a faulty understanding of Scriptures. We should pray for false teachers, love them, forgive them if they have hurt us or our loved ones, and help them to see the error of their ways and return to God.But until they do repent, we have a grave responsibility to warn our brothers and sisters away from them.

Regarding the Quiverfull Movement, someone wrote,
“I have seen women who do not breastfeed or severely limit breastfeeding so they can have as many children in as little time as possible. They wonder why CPS is called on them all the time by their neighbors. Well, when your children are running around the neighborhood in March with no shoes on and no coats on and your toddler is in the middle of the road, that really is not a hard thing to comprehend. ”

So true.
And, other considerations come into play here as well. When a woman’s husband has a good job, and she can afford to have as many kids as she wants without resorting to medicaid or foodstamps (or, welfare– yes, working parents are eligible too, if they have more kids than income), that’s one thing, and everybody praises her in the gates, but just let Mom show up in the supermarket checkout line with nine kids and foodstamps, and the Busybodybiddies will be tsk-tsking.

If Mom and kids have dark hair and eyes, they will also be tsk-tsking about those Mexican Catholic immigrants who are coming here illegally and taking over the country.

If the family is black, they will be muttering words like “welfare queen”, even if no food stamps are in sight and Mom is wearing a head-doily and a wedding ring.

And if the Mom is white and the kids are black, better call 911, because half a dozen Mrs. Busybodybiddies will have just passed out in aisle #5 of the Piggley Wiggley from an old-fashioned attack of the vapors.

On Auto-Repair

Over on Jen's Gems this morning, Jen wrote,
"I once was bowling with my father (who was a self-educated tool and die expert) and some others. Something got hitched up with the pin resetting machinery, and my father wondered what had happened. A man turned to him and said, “there’s something wrong with the mechanism.”
The man walked away, and my father made sure he pointed out to me that the man had just sounded like he explained something, but he didn’t; he just repeated my father’s question with a statement. I’ve never forgotten that instance."

Interesting story, and it got me to thinking (a dangerous pastime, that)... and it seems to me that situations of pastoral abuse are rather like that pin-resetter — churches can break down too, whenever something gets “hung up in the mechanism”.

Jesus said that the gates of Hell will not prevail against His church, but He never said that it wouldn’t break down from time to time. In fact, break-downs are bound to happen, because Jesus has built His Church upon human rock:
Mat 16:18 "And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

….. but when leader-worship breaks out in a church, the resultant situation is rather like that pin-resetter snafu — when people are worshipping a leader, it affects their “mechanical aptitude”, and they are unable to address, let alone fix, the inevitable breakdown. And so divisions and abuses result, and the Church breaks down, and, by following human leaders rather than Christ, and by endowing those human leaders with that Headship which is the rightful seat of Christ alone, the laity as a body emasculates itself, and grows weak and soft, and so becomes unfit to address abuse problems and heresies when they arise.

Now, bowling alleys have service-people who repair their pin-setters, so that analogy is only good to a point, but did you ever see a car break down in a very small town?
Before you know it, you have a crowd of locals gathered around, exchanging car-breakdown stories and ideas, and shooting the bull, and often as not, if the problem isn’t too severe, the car will soon be on the road again, or at least on its way to a repair shop, with the problem already diagnosed.

The church can work that way too, AS LONG AS we don’t become like that man at the bowling alley, who was content to leave the problem to the “experts.” The Church should and does have people who are experts– ordained pastors, deacons and bishops — but they, like us, are PART of the mechanism, and can also go on the fritz. That’s why we all need to be Bereans, and educate ourselves in the care and feeding and general operation of the Faith, so that when the Church starts rattling and smoking and won’t go, we can put the hood up and stand around together, exchanging church-breakdown stories and ideas, and get Her up and running again, or at least on Her way to being repaired, with a clear diagnosis of the problem.

Jesus said to His apostles, whom He would later ordain to lead His Church,
“Mat 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.”

Well now, SRL, here we are in agreement. I condemn abortion, 100%. I also condemn killing, violence, and attempted violence against abortionists or anyone else; I heartily agree with you that those who do so "are in rebellion against God, to take justice into one's own hand." I also agree that it is the civil magistrate's job to "bear the sword", but here I am sure that we differ, since I am NOT in favor of the death penalty. Criminals do need to be punished, but punishment should allow for the possibility of rehabilitation and, hopefully, conversion and regeneration.

I also agree with your statement, "saying that Christ is and will reign over all, and that nations ought to and will be populated and governed by the godly, is NOT a call to anything like an armed rebellion, revolt, uprising, coup.. etc. "; however, there are many in Reconstructionist circles who believe that armed revolution is justifiable against an "evil" or "oppressive" state, and many of these go so far as to claim, along with the supporters of Dabney, that the Civil War was "a Christian struggle of a justified South against a wicked North."

As for the notion that lawless actions are the "inevitable results" of a pro-life stance, that is patently ridiculous, BUT such actions ARE the logical outgrowth of the "rhetoric of hatred" which we are seeing in certain Reconsructionist circles. There are groups which see our society and our country's government as being so depraved that they believe themselves to be justified in taking the law into their own hands and undermining it, following the guidelines set forth by Gary North:
“On the other hand, to the extent that any Christian’s position in any period of time should resemble the plight of the Christians under Roman rule, then he should take heed. Under the rule of a Hitler or a Stalin, the Christian’s proper response is outward subservience. He should bribe the dictator’s lieutenants, lie if necessary, join a Christian underground, and gain freedom of action through the lies and bribes to continue preaching and publishing.”

Many of those who hold such sentiments have long flocked to Howard Phillips' Reconstructionist-leaning US Taxpayers Party, renamed the Constitution Party, which has sold antisemitic militia tracts and militia manuals at their state conventions.
At the USTP Wisconsin state convention in 1995, Rev. Matthew Trewhella called for the formation of armed militias, such as the one he leads through his church. Newsweek reported that one member of the Missionaries(who lived in Trewhella's basement for five months in 1990) kept a journal which included apparent plans for a guerrilla campaign of clinic bombings and assassinations of doctors. What's more, a 100 page guerrilla army manual was sold by the USTP of Wisconsin at that convention. Among the manual's justifications for armed resistance to the federal government was legalized abortion.

The Constitution Party is endorsed from the pulpit by Doug Phillips and other prominent Reconstructionists. It is also endorsed by the League of the South and by white supremicist groups, many of which have no qualms about resorting to armed violence. The fact that that a White Nationalist group sees what is essentially a Reconstructionist-run party as espousing most of the things that they believe in, and sees the Constitution Party as a group ready made for them, and recommends infiltrating it , is scary indeed.

As C. S. Lewis said of the NICE in “That Hideous Strength”, “they are kittens playing at being tigers; but they never think about what would happen if the real tiger actually showed up.”

Doug Phillips' Politicization of the Virginia Tech Tragedy

Doug Phillips of VisionForum has posted a blog article about the Virginia Tech school shootings:

Today, the nation mourns the senseless murder of thirty-two men and women who were gunned down in cold blood. The slaughter of students at Virginia Tech constitutes the largest campus killing spree in American history. The murderer was a fellow student, twenty-three-year-old Cho Seung-hui of South Korea. Though little is currently known of his motive behind the murders, it is clear that his plan was calculated and carefully executed. He was premeditated and thorough. Doctors report that not a single victim had less than three bullet wounds.
Thousands will be deeply affected, probably for the rest of their lives. The most serious pains belong to the mothers, fathers, and sisters and brothers of the murdered victims. What shall we say to them? What are we to learn from these events?
First, we must remember the answer to the question “why?”
When people ask: “Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?” or “How can such a terrible thing happen?”, we must point them to the fundamentals. First, all of us deserve death and all of us will die. The only question is when will we die, and what will be the state of our eternal soul at that time. Every breath is a gift of God. None of us deserve it. We have no rights or demands we can make to our Creator. In fact, apart from Christ, we stand condemned to a fate far worse than physical death — eternal punishment. And there is a reason for all of this. God is God, and we are His creation. Understanding the distinction is everything. He sets the rules. He determines what is just. And His plan is always good, even when we do not understand it. Not only is he a loving and kind God, but He is also infinitely just. This justice has implications for man. It was God who created the world and man “very good.” But man sinned against an infinite and holy God. The penalty for this sin was physical death. Because of man’s sin, all of creation became subject to death. Our bodies and the world around us die and groan as a reminder and a punishment for our rebellion before the Lord. Everything would be supremely hopeless, but for one important truth: Though the wages of our sin is death, the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus. It took an infinite, perfect, and holy sacrifice to atone for our sin against an infinite, perfect, and holy God. Christ was that sacrifice. This means that all whom the Father calls, and who repent and believe in Christ, shall not perish but have eternal life.
Thus, the question is not, why did God allow the tragic death of these students, but why does He allow any of us to live? We deserve death. Every breath of life is a gift. It is only by His grace and mercy that we live and breathe and have our very being. He is our Creator and He is just to determine the beginning and the end of our existence. Beyond this, we must remember that even the tragedy of death is part of the eternal plan of God to bring glory to Himself. The fact that we do not understand the infinite purposes and counsels of the Triune God only means that we are creatures and need to trust Him. That is why He has given us His Holy Word. The Bible is the revealed mind of Christ for man. It reminds us that all things — including the murder of the innocent — work together for good to those that are the called of God. It cautions us to flee to God while we yet have life. It reminds us that the victory of Christ is greater than the grave itself. It warns us that without Christ there is no hope whatsoever. When we see the horror of death, we must be convicted of sin and flee to God. We must be emboldened in our sense of urgency to communicate to others the only source of hope from death. We must treasure the preciousness of life as God’s sacred gift, and we must wisely invest in meaningful Kingdom work this brief whisper of an opportunity called — our life.
Second, we must acknowledge that the rise of community violence is a judgment of the Lord.
Our nation has broken covenant with the God of our fathers. We have forsaken the law of God and have worshipped before false idols. We have sacrificed our children, not only spiritually and intellectually to the high priests of a new secular religion in our government schools, but have quite literally sacrificed baby boys and girls to the gods of convenience in the abortuaries of America. One out of four Americans is not here because they were aborted by their mothers.
The modern trend towards school killings must be considered in terms of the hopelessness and evil which is being communicated to the children of this generation through the music culture, the entertainment culture, the sexual culture, and the intellectual culture of evolution and meaninglessness — all of which converge in the modern schools. Our children are being taught the Gospel of evolution and man. It is a religious faith that ultimately teaches that transcendent truth does not exist; life is meaningless, being the product of chance. Why are we surprised when the present generation acts upon the logical implications of this false gospel? If we do not see the connection between this false faith and the culture of death, we are blind bats, or willingly ignorant. The answer for us as a people is repentance and restitution, which begins by turning from our sins and reclaiming the ancient paths of the Lord wherein there is hope.
Third, the worst response to school murders that our politicians could make would be to further disarm the American citizenry. The heavy death toll may in part be attributed to past legislation making it difficult for citizens to carry sidearms. But, if even one of the students in that university had been armed, Cho Seung-hui could have been stopped. A strong case can be made that in a violent society like our own, it is the duty of every Christian man to be armed such that he is ready, willing, and able to come to the immediate aid of his neighbor in the face of the ruthless behavior of lawless men. We have one of two futures — a police state full of regulation and controls, where only the state and criminals have access to guns, thus leaving most women and children defenseless to evildoers, or an informed, well-armed citizen population, which is, to my mind, the surest safeguard against lawless men.
Fourth, every tragedy is an opportunity God gives to reflect glory and honor to Him. We give glory to Him as we reach out to others and lead them to the great Comforter. Now is the time for Christians to reach out in love to those who are in unimaginable pain, as well as those who are just shell-shocked by the horrible news. There is a time to mourn with those who mourn, and now is it. Let us mourn, love, and encourage, and let us give God the glory in everything — even death.

Now, there is a time to be bluntly honest and a time to be consoling. Though IMO Phillips article is dead right theologically, in that death is the result of human sinfulness, his timing is LOUSY. The theology could have waited a few days — “though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.”

Still, I was almost agreeing with him until he went and ruined it by turning it into a political speech. Honestly–” if even one of the students in that university had been armed, Cho Seung-hui could have been stopped”??
Phillips is actually advocating that students carry guns into the classroom????

Now there’s an agenda if ever I saw one. And, 2008 is an election year....

READ BETWEEN THE LINES, FOLKS. Doug’s "sermon" is not just about government schools. Doug is calling secular government itself an idol, and he is calling secularism a religion. In other words, if you are not FOR theocracy, you are necessarily against it, and have “broken the covenant”. Doug is preaching against democracy itself, and calling all who do not support his religion idolaters.

Now, I don’t usually call names, but the time has come to call this spade what it is — a dangerous cult run by dangerous nuts who would like nothing better than to bury democracy and establish their brand of theocracy as the order of the day. The rot going on in our country is bad, but the state-church harlotry that is Doug Phillips and his Constitution Party friends' “vision” for America would be infinitely worse, were it ever to be realized.

Riding the 'Goat

Hey, did you know that WOMEN , evil egalitarian women who refuse to embrace their God-ordained, home-centered mission to marry, have caused the Oregon House of Representatives approved a pair of bills Tuesday that grant marriage-style benefits to same-sex couples and bar discrimination because of sexual orientation?

That's right, we've gone and done it-- it's all our fault -- and we rebellious women are responsible for a whole host of societal ills, not just a couple of pieces of gay-rights legislation.
According to Carmon Friedrich, author of Fall-Out from the Fall, we egalitarian women are responsible for the ongoing fall of western society, and all the ensuing ills thereof, including government supported libraries, and various programs designed to "take other people’s (read, Libertarian people's) money" to give to “the poor":

Carmon writes:
"....I still have some lingering frustrations over yesterday’s issue, compounded by evil legislation passed by the House of Representatives in my former home state of Oregon today. Two “landmark” bills passed the House and are expected to be easily approved by the Senate and signed by the liberal governor. One grants “marriage-style benefits” to sodomites, and the other forces even Christian-owned businesses to hire homosexual employees. Only churches are exempt from the latter legislation, though church-owned businesses (such as schools and bookstores) may be required to comply, regardless of their convictions regarding such immoral lifestyles. You can bet there will be numerous lawsuits, as sodomite activists target these businesses for infiltration, and judges will be the arbiters of what Christian activity comes under government purview.
There are many reasons our society has come to this sad position, not the least of which is Christians don’t speak up when evil is rampant. The theology du jour says that God only cares about “spiritual” things, and this false spiritual/secular dichotomy keeps the church from addressing cultural and political issues, until it’s too late. Jesus lives in our hearts, but He is powerless to speak to anything more than a limited number of topics, confined to pulpits and Bible studies, unless it involves encouraging the government to take other people’s money to give to “the poor,” because we all know that socialism is really WWJD if you read between the lines of the Golden Rule.
But there’s another aspect to Christians jumping the cultural ship. I’ve been reading Ephesians to the children during our morning Bible time, and in chapter 5, Paul admonishes Christians to walk as children of light:
"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light."
After that, he gives some very practical instruction for how to begin living out our Christian walk within the home. The very first instructions are given to wives, urging them to “submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” This is how wives are to walk in the light, to repudiate the darkness, yet in the church, women are repudiating this clear teaching in order to embrace egalitarianism.
I believe that the rejection of the God-ordained, home-centered mission of wives and mothers is one of the biggest reasons we see our society crumbling around our feet....."

Tell it to Paul, Carmon, and to Jesus. They were the ones who said things like,

1Cr 7:7 "For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.....Cr 7:24Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God."

1Cr 7:32 "But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please [his] wife. 1Cr 7:34 There is difference [also] between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please [her] husband."

Luk 20:34
And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

As for societal ills, Jesus and Paul tell us all about that too:

The idea that homemaking is the God-ordained mission of all women is clearly contrary to Scripture, and the idea that women who choose to depart from that role are responsible for the crumbling of society is ridiculous. Society has been crumbling ever since mankind first listened to the snake. Uber-complementarians will have to find another scapegoat to blame for homosexuality and all of the ills of society (including "evils" such as public libraries, health clinics for poor kids, Social Security, and other WWJD government programs designed to force Libertarian "Christians" to part with their money, LOL!), because this particular 'goat is taken, and has been for quite some time now :

So How DO We Improve Our Public Libraries?

On her blog at Buried Treasure Books, Carmon Friedrich has been posting lately about a subject which is near and dear to my heart -- books and libraries. Not being to the manor born, I have long been a patron of the public library system, while Carmon prefers to buy books and build her own library, a sentiment shared by many of her readers (at least by most of those whose comments are published, LOL.)
Now, that's nice work if you can get it, and Carmon has the perfect right to buy all the books her house can hold -- I would too, were I her -- but Carmon and I disagree over her notion that everyone should do as she does, or do without. Carmon and many of her commenters lament the fact that a portion of their tax dollars goes to fund their communities' public library systems, and she would like to see the end of the public library system and other forms of "welfare" in this country.

Today, Carmon described a growing problem in our public libraries that is a source of concern to me as well: the problem of sexually themed materials being made available to young people.
Carmon goes for maximum shock value, beginning her article with a disclaimer to warn "sensitive readers" that the article contains controversial materials, and goes on to describe how some schools in her area are showing their support for the gay and lesbian community with a "Day of Silence." Then she gets to what is ostensibly her real subject matter: the problem of sexually themed materials being marketed to children, and made available in our public libraries.

Carmon writes,
"These books are rubbing shoulders (bad pun) with such venerable volumes as David Copperfield and Don Quixote. Other more innocuous titles are there, as well, which may not be great literature, but light reading such as Star Wars and Holes. Sprinkled liberally (another bad pun) among these books are some of the most vile things you should never see."

...and, she goes on to describe some of those books. And they are bad.

In the "comments" section, I wrote,
"Carmon, for once you and I are in almost complete agreement. This sort of thing is filth, it is reprehensible, and if parents complain about this sort of thing being presented to children, they will be labeled as bigots, or worse. There is a way around the situation, though. To begin with, kids need to be taught right from wrong, and taught WHY wrong stuff is wrong. I was attracted to the occult section in our library as a young teenager, until our pastor told me about where that stuff comes from. Then I left it alone. And, whatever happened to the idea that presenting material dealing with sexual behavior - ANY sexual behavior, other than nuts-and-bolts-biology-book-type science - to children, is unacceptable? Children under 12 don't need to be exposed to stories dealing with normal sex, let alone the drek you're describing, and communities should be complaining. People can change this situation -- that's how those books got into the library in the first place, somebody who wanted them there complained and got their way -- and we can get them out, in the same way. We pay for libraries with our tax dollars, and we CAN get what we pay for -- democracy DOES work."

Now, Carmon's solution is simple: don't use public libraries, and vote to end this sort of "middle class entitlement" -- never mind the fact that that would leave millions of lower and middle class children and adults with virtually no access to literature at all, other than newspapers and magazines.
I find Carmon's solution to be almost as reprehensible as the problem she claims to want to solve, but, a solution is still needed.

Note: this is about a topic which is very controversial, and I am discussing things that sensitive readers may prefer to skip. Some of your filters may prevent you from reading it! Please forgive me for even mentioning some of this material, but I want parents to be aware of the dangers to their children in places that have been considered “safe,” but which are actually endangering the innocence of young children. Any nasty comments on this post will be immediately deleted as I have no qualms about censorship on my personal blog :-).

Tomorrow is a red-letter day in some public schools. My sister, who works in the office of a public high school, told me that memos have been sent around to school staff encouraging them to participate in the commemoration of The Day of Silence, which will be noted in schools around the country. It’s the day when the love that dare not speak its name gets a hearing—or not—among junior high and high school students, who are coached by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) on how to get noticed by the passive-agressive behavior of keeping silent all day in school.
There is a concerted effort in the media, in public schools, and in libraries to make what God calls an abomination acceptable and “normal” to the general public, which has had a normal abhorrance for such behavior. But nobody wants to be a “prude,” a “bigot,” or “intolerant.” Such namecalling is used to portray those who rightly perceive such perverse behavior as sinful, in a negative light so that they are forced to remain silent or be branded with epithets.
I recently visited Barnes and Noble alone, and while there decided to check up on a book that Sherry reviewed called Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. She pointed out the blatant perversity in a book that won an award for young adult fiction and which is targeted to teens in 9th grade and above. I sat in a chair in B&N and, hoping nobody who knew me was watching, leafed through a pornographic book. It was laced with the F-word and filled with details of intimate behavior which swung both ways. Disgusted, I returned it to the shelves and took a look at the other books there in the “teen” section. There were dozens of similar inane books which were about “hooking up” in the most literal sense between teenagers with no respect to gender or any morality whatsoever. There was a special end display with the covers facing out (with reprehensible illustrations on many) targeted to this teen audience. This section was just outside the area with the childrens’ picture books.
At least they are reading.
Yesterday, Gracie and I went on a fact-finding mission to a nearby public library. This was in a medium-sized rural town, at the main library in the next county, in a town we frequently visit. As with many libraries, it has a special teen/young adult area, where there were a couple of tables for the teens to congregate. We went in the late afternoon, so some kids were there after school, visiting, and a librarian tried to get us to move because they “want to keep this area available for teens to hang out.” I refrained from pointing out that the teens don’t pay the taxes to keep the place open, but instead told her that Gracie fit the profile and that I was with her. We sat at a vacant table and I went to look at the shelves. I soon found out why adults are not welcome in that area. While I was browsing, small children were nearby, looking at picture books with their mommies. I cannot even describe how angry I was that such filth was accessible to the youngest readers.
It only took me about five minutes to grab a handful of books which, from the jacket descriptions, were filled with material aimed at corrupting young people. These books are rubbing shoulders (bad pun) with such venerable volumes as David Copperfield and Don Quixote. Other more innocuous titles are there, as well, which may not be great literature, but light reading such as Star Wars and Holes. Sprinkled liberally (another bad pun) among these books are some of the most vile things you should never see.
Let me name names and give a little more detail, as repellent as it is, so that you understand just how bad this is. I didn’t have the time or inclination to leaf through many for the lurid details, but some of the worst were:
Two copies of Fly on the Wall, about a young girl who turns into a fly and spies on the boys’ locker room. Filled with expletives and descriptions of male anatomy, one mother in an Amazon review, complains that the attractive pink cover caused her 12-year-old daughter to check it out, and she was embarrassed and shocked by the contents. The mother was right when she said such pornography should not be available to under-18-year-olds.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, another “coming of age” story (watch out for that overused descriptor!), has drug use, suicide, homosexuality and other sexual experimentation, this is required reading in many schools. Anyone who complains is labeled with that nasty name: book banner.
Realm of Possibility by David Levithan, won an American Library Association award. It’s written in a very postmodern free verse kind of artsy style, with vignettes of different teens, including a homosexual couple who are celebrating an anniversary, and a girl who is a lesbian with a crush on a friend. Confusing in more ways than one. Written by the co-author of the Nick and Norah tripe above (shame on them for stealing those names from the wonderful Thin Man!)
Rainbow Boys by Alex Sanchez, by far the worst of the books I looked at, but I didn’t put more effort into this than I could stand. This filthy book was about—surprise—three high school boys who are dealing with their homosexuality. There was a very graphic scene with one of the boys engaging in an encounter with an adult man. This is also filled with profanity. The author has apparently written other “Rainbow” books.
To be fair, I should mention the Christian books I saw. There was Left Behind Kids, the whole series. And there was also an “issues” series with a “Christian” message, published by Think Books, a division of NavPress, the “Color Me Crushed” series by Melody Carlson. One book, with an endorsement by the defunct The Discerning Reader, was about a high school girl who finds out her friend is a lesbian, and who is shocked by the “unloving” response to homosexuality by the members of her church. The message was that we need to be more loving and tolerant in order to reach those who are involved in this lifestyle. While I agree that all sinners need to be given the gospel and that nobody is outside of God’s ability to save them, this book downplayed the need for repentance on the part of the sinner and portrayed a natural revulsion to perversion in an extreme manner, with stereotypical examples of Christian “pharisees.” In another book in the series, a girl who is upset with her father for leaving his family tries to get back at him by flirting with a boy to get him to sleep with her. When he refuses, she is relieved, but only because it would have “complicated” things, not because it would have been sinful and displeasing to God.
I apologize again for even giving this much detail about what I found, but I want to warn families about the mine fields that the bookstore and the libraries have become. If you don’t believe me, check it out yourself. It only took a few minutes for me to pull some of these books off the shelf. I sadly watched young girls (one looked about 9 years old) browsing the same shelves for something to read. What kid is going to pick a classic when there are much more titillating titles to choose? Do you really think that “as long as they are reading,” it doesn’t really matter what they read? Does it make you feel good that your tax dollars are being used to purchase this stuff for kids so that they aren’t left ignorant about such behavior?
Before you go, take a gander at this young adult booklist from the American Library Association, which includes “GBLTQ” books: “Contemporary fiction and nonfiction for teens of all persuasions.” Such booklists are used by librarians to decide what books to purchase each year. Why don’t you look in your library (many have their catalogs online) to see how many are in your town?
When I said that public libraries are cesspools, I wasn’t kidding. Am I the only person to notice? Where are the outraged parents, complaining about the pornography peddled to children? Why are you keeping silent?

I am perusing your titles with my library’s website at the same time. So far so good but that is pretty much what I expected..for now at least. I will do the same thing with the American Library Association list. I understand your arguments about libraries but I still find myself visiting ours occasionally.
I am curious to know if our local highschool grades k-12 is participating in the day. I will be very surprised if they are. Rural Alabama is still one of the most conservative places I have ever lived.

Hi. I’ve been reading here for some time but I think this is the first time I’ve commented.
As you are aware, it is no accident that these books are deliberately published to drag young people down. I have commented to my husband several times, recently, about the “help” I received as a pre-teen and teen by books I had picked up from the library (in Australia). At the time, the target was turning children against their parents (this was early- to mid-eighties) with such titles as “Can You Sue Your Parents for Malpractice?” I wrote a very sad essay for my English class about the “emotional abuse” I received at home (read: my parents didn’t give in when I threw a fit about something they wouldn’t give me) after reading it. Fortunately, my English teacher (who’d been around for a long time) said it was poorly written, gave me a B grading (lower than my usual) and didn’t feel the slightest sorry for me!
Other lovely series around at the time were about the occult in the Pan Horizons books, plus other fornication encouragements in that series. Also, there were other books about the oppression of women in the home. The homosexual issue was just starting to be addressed in the teenage magazines in response to the early “coming out” films of the 80’s, with letters written in by confused girls who “weren’t sure” and who were encouraged by the helpful “Dear Dolly” columnist that they “might be wired that way” and the only thing they could do was to “carefully” experiment to find out.
Time after time I have come to realise that a thought or an attitude that I have is directly linked to those books I voraciously read. I am learning to take these thoughts captive to Christ.
Ladies, make sure you don’t let your kids borrow from the library without you having a good look first.

Just last week I complained to the children’s librarian about a book, “Street Love” being displayed prominantly in the “New Books” section. She brushed aside my complaints, so I hid the book behind some others. I noticed yesterday that it had been found and put back on display.
Interesting you brought this up, though. Yesterday’s discovery of the found book prompted me to talk to my children, 12 and under, about protecting their minds from filth. I told them about when I was 12 finding a book about real, practicing witches in my public school library and deciding that I wanted to find out all I could about witchcraft. No one was there to protect me or remind me to guard my mind.

Cindy, the library we visited is in the second-most conservative county in our state. We live in the first most conservative.
It was actually a mother with children in an Alabama public school who first mentioned the problems with such explicit books in an article at WND that made me start looking at the local library listings more carefully. That was a couple of years ago. I am really shocked at how quickly the libraries have been acquiring such horrible books over that time.
Connie, those witchcraft books were very tempteing to me when I was in junior high.

We stopped going to the library a long time ago. Some friends use the “click and pull” option at the city library, which is an hour away. That way the kids don’t even look around. The mom just picks what books they want and the library has them all ready on the date they want them.
I prefer to buy, when I can, the books we want. Not everyone can do that.

This is why when I go to the library, I usually stay in the children’s section. People probably think a 20 year old browsing in the children’s section is weird, but that’s where all the Anne of Green Gables, L.M. Montgomery, and other decent books are. The “young adult” section is almost all trash…I only go there if there is a certain book that I want and have looked up on the computer. I go grab it really quickly and get out, hoping people won’t see me in there and think I read that junk.

I remember being in Germany years ago and the filth that was prominently displayed there was amazing to me. There was a “news stand” that had pornography centerfolds placed for all passers-by to see. It has been obvious to me to for a while that we are in the cesspool too. It is sad, though, how many nice people I know that are shocked that these things are happening here. Like it just happened overnight! It hasn’t, but it has happened while we were sleeping.

Well, I wish I had a better answer but mostly I am silent because #1 I am afraid, #2 I feel that the pagan’s could care less. I suppose me and Jonah have a lot in common.
But let me also add that all this filth doesn’t slip by unnoticed. I have to censor much of the media messages my kids would normally be exposed to because they are frankly or subtely p*rn*graphic. We try to stay out of the mall, keep our radio is turned off and make guarded trips to the library etc. Serious censorship is what parenting is all about.
Most christian parents would easily see the harm in some of the examples of filth you noted above. What really concerns me are soul destroying messages that our children are being fed subtley via very attractive media. Sort of like swallowing a little bit of poison mixed with jam. I would put almost every disney film I’ve ever seen into this category. I am suprised how many christian parents miss the pagan messages in these films.
The challenge for the modern christian parent is having to constantly guard your child’s soul. I would liken it to trying to protect your kids from flying bullets in a warzone. It takes it’s toll on the parents. Children while they are young often don’t realize or appreciate the sacrifices parents make on their behalf.
It has been obvious to me that very young children are being primed/coached/tutored/trained/prepared for destruction. The attacks on their souls are becoming less and less subtle.
I am not particularly for or against harry potter books but I have read some of them. The media and other predators who feed on a young childs soul bring to mind the “death eaters” in the potter books. Really, really, sickening and evil.
And then everyone wonders what went wrong in Virginia, Columbine etc. Take a guess…it’s not rocket science.

You know, I never go to the library, that’s because most books I want to read or have my children read are not in the library. I haven’t stepped foot in the library for months. And when I do go to the Library, I usually know what I’m looking for and go straight to get it and leave. I’m not a library browser. But I will forward this information to my homeschool group. You know, the flip side of this Day of Silence is that all the Christians are at liberty to talk all day about Jesus, God’s wrath on sin, what sin is, the forgiveness found in Jesus Christ, the new heart created by the Spirit which longs for what’s right (=wonderful freedom from sin!), and the wiles of Satan, etc. And the godless get to sit silently and listen…

I’m glad some of you are looking at the library catalog…make sure to say something to the librarians, as well. If you can stomach it, point out the graphic scene in the last book I linked, and ask them if such pornography is legal in your city or county to give to minors, particularly since it involves a man molesting a child.
My sister informs me that the administration at her school advertised this even for a week, and that many students participated, wearing t-shirts, handing out literature, with duct tape on their mouths. Colorful flyers were placed around the school with “statistics,” but some unhappy students removed them all. In our area, a group of Christian students came to school with t-shirts with messages against homosexuality, and when they refused to remove them, they were suspended. So much for “free speech.”

I don’t know why I am always shocked by such things. If I am ever blessed with children, they will certainly not be getting books from the library! Sheeeeesh. My parents were not all that concerned with what I read as a child and I still remember reading really inappropriate books by authors like Judy Bloom. At least I learned what my children will not be reading!

The problem that all of you are describing- that of sexually inappropriate materials being pushed on young people in public libraries, is one that our organization, Family Friendly Libraries is also trying to address. We would like more citizens who feel the way you do (and there are many) to become more active in local library policy. You can start by questioning the library’s collection standards, requesting particularly offensive materials be moved to the adult section or removed from the library altogether, and start questioning library board candidates about their views before they are appointed or elected.
